JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the care of student athletes competing in the University’s athletic program, including the prevention, evaluation, management, rehabilitation, documentation and insurance within the University’s comprehensive sports medicine program.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses athlete’s needs; selects, administers, and interprets appropriate evaluation procedures.
  • Educates athletes and coaches regarding evaluation findings and management recommendations.
  • Develops and instructs athletes in daily treatment program and ensures compliance with all therapy and medical orders.
  • Supervision, education and recruitment of student athletic trainers.
  • Arranges/provides in-services within the University athletic department.
  • Projects a professional appearance and establishes a working relationship with University coaches, student athletes, student trainers and medical staff.
  • Provide counseling, sickle cell and drug education to student athletes.
  • Perform administrative duties including record keeping, monthly referral report, coordination and scheduling for home and away competitions and pre-participation physicals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Athletic Trainer Supervisor.
  • Maintains expertise through attendance at professional meetings and literature review.
  • Work flexible schedule and adapts to required changes with clinical and non-clinical responsibilities.

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited Athletic Training Program with at least BS in Athletic Training. Masters' degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 1 to 3 years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
  • Current MS Athletic Trainer license or eligible for MS Athletic Trainer license
  • Current Healthcare provider CPR certification
