POLICY:

PROCEDURE:
1. Every new employee shall read and sign the job description upon employment to ensure that the individual understands what they are hired for and in agreement with it. Management may alter the job or reassign the employee at a future time to meet the needs of the company and/or the employee.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Housekeeper is to maintain a clean and safe environment in accordance with current Federal and State guidelines governing our facility. It is to be assured that out facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
CHAIN OF COMMAND:
Reports directly to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORK CONDITIONS:
Works in well lit and ventilated areas. Works in all areas of the facility.
HAZARDOUS EXPOSURE RISK:
All toxic substances are labeled prior to being used. A "Material Safety Data Sheet/listing" is posted in Utility Room. Generally this includes cleaning and disinfectant agents.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE TO BLOOD-BORNE PATHOGEN RISKS:
Gloves are worn when cleaning resident rooms and bathrooms. Universal Precautions is used. Category I exposure. (See Infection Control for description.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to move rapidly throughout the day. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Must possess sight/hearing senses so that the requirements can be met.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform the day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
2. Perform assigned tasks in accordance with housekeeping procedures.
3. Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner.
4. Follow safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
5. Assure that infection control practices are maintained.
6. Clean, wash, and sanitize bathroom fixtures including mirrors.
7. Replenish toilet tissue, liquid soap and gloves.
8. Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, etc. Assure that caution/safety signs are properly set up while performing such duties.
9. Clean hallways, nurse's station, stairways, offices, etc.
10. Inspects for rings, hearing aides, dentures, etc when discarding trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liners.
11. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to Housekeeping Supervisor or to Maintenance.
12. Clean and restock housekeeping cart at the end of shift.
13. Inform supervisor of supply needs.
14. Follow Universal Precautions as deemed necessary.
15. Follow fire and safety policies and procedures.
16. Maintain the confidentiality of residents.
17. Honor the residents personal property.
18. Attend departmental and required staff meetings.
19. Perform terminal/isolation cleaning procedures, when a resident is discharged, and/or transferred to another room.
20. Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor.

EDUCATIONAL/SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess an 8th grade education. On-the-job training is provided.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
2. Possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
3. Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel.
