Kids Summer Camp Assistant

Job Overview:

The Kingwood Kids Summer Camp Assistant position is designed to provide an informal classroom experience, under the supervision of the Education Coordinator, with a focus on environmental education and building leadership skills working with school-age children. This part-time, temporary position will team-teach the Summer Camp curriculum with the Education Intern and will have the opportunity to work with all departments at Kingwood Center Gardens, guests, and volunteers to gain a broad understanding of how a non-profit estate garden operates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparing course materials with the Education Intern and/or Education Coordinator prior to participant arrival.
• Assist the Education Intern and/or Education Coordinator with the implementation of the lesson plan each day of class.
• Monitor children’s behavior, progress, and safety, making sure they are following the established 4 Rules of Respect.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of continuous standing, sitting or walking along with occasional stooping, bending, reaching, crouching
• Ability to lift 25 pounds occasionally
• Must be able to move around the garden in all weather conditions
• Ability to work a weekly summer camp series for students grades 1-4 in the month of June
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfortable working with children in both organized and informal situations
• Possess strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with and supervise diverse staff and volunteers
• Possess verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including effective presentation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability with computers, Microsoft Office programs

Qualifications:

• Previous experience working with children in a classroom setting, informal or formal preferred
• Active First Aid/CPR certification preferred
• Ability to move around the garden estate in all weather conditions
• Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License
• Must pass a background check
• Must pass a drug test
• No phone calls please
