Senior Accountant

Overview

The Senior Accountant will perform the tasks necessary to ensure the integrity of fixed asset system and general ledger accounting information. The Senior Accountant will utilize accounting skills to record and report all fixed asset and other accounting activity in the general ledger in compliance with US GAAP, as well as ensure that all internal controls are properly executed.

Responsibilities

• Manage the fixed asset accounting process within the fixed asset system, including recording the cost of newly-acquired fixed-assets, tracking existing fixed assets, modifying asset lives based on changes in lease terms, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets
• Work with IT department to ensure proper capitalization of costs for projects in process and ensure project costs are placed into service in a timely manner
• Provide fixed asset reporting including project tracking, roll-forwards, reconciliations, budget and forecast information related to capital expenditures and depreciation and summarized fixed asset information for executives
• Participate in monthly closing process by performing various accounting duties for select general ledger accounts including calculating accruals, recording journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts and performing expense variance analysis related to fixed assets, prepaid expenses and other accounts
• Review and update SOX internal control documentation and document performance of key controls including the completeness and accuracy of reports used in performance of controls
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing clear, well-organized schedules and information
• Complete various projects as assigned by management
• Perform other duties as necessary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA strongly preferred
• Fixed asset or general accounting close experience in a public company
• Experience as an auditor in a public accounting firm
• 3 to 6 years of accounting experience
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position
• Strong GAAP knowledge
• Sarbanes Oxley experience
• Experience in the retail industry a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills including pivot tables
• Infor/Lawson general ledger experience a plus
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
