Structural Project Manager Specializing in Existing Structural Evaluation and Reuse

KL&A is looking for a senior project engineer passionate about the renovation, restoration, and reuse of structures. Helping our clients preserve existing buildings is a critical strategy in meeting the SE2050 Challenge we committed to in 2020. This position will be working with our teams of engineers and construction managers, as well as architects and contractors, to provide creative, economical, and sustainable design solutions. This role will be influential throughout our organization by providing support, expertise, and training on projects with existing building challenges while helping grow our work in full-building and structural component reuse.

Common Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Active in execution and management of project design from concept through construction phase services.
- Assists in preparing proposals and setting project budgets.
- Uses and understands material testing methods and state-of-the-art repair techniques.
- Travel for site visits to perform field assessments and write reports.
- Exercise a deep understanding of engineering first principles to solve unique problems that fall both inside and outside the bounds of building codes.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of building codes.
- Able to identify project issues and use effective tools and resources for efficient solutions.
- A technical resource by providing expertise and assisting project teams throughout the organization.
- Oversees the development of standards and processes related to building reuse and renovation.
- Able to work both independently and in various team environments.
- Autonomy to build and lead a team of existing building specialists.
- Mentoring, training, and developing technical skills of other team members.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado or willingness to obtain if licensed in another state.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree with a focus in structures from an ABET accredited engineering program.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of engineering experience, with a 5 to 7-year focus on building reuse and renovation.
- Experience with field observations, assessments, and report writing.
- Broad experience with and extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and standards, especially the IEBC and ASCE 41.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in multiple structural systems and materials.
- An understanding of and dedication to client-centered service and technical excellence.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Structural Engineering (SE) license in a State that offers an SE license.
- Familiar with Revit, Bluebeam, RAM, RFEM, ETABS and RISA

Salary: $120,000 - $145,000 per year
