Manufacturing Estimator
POSITION SUMMARY:
Quotes and performs estimating for manufacturing and/or machining solutions. Knows how to find and apply aerospace and military specs. Assigns estimated labor time, machine time, materials needed, and outsourcing required completing projects profitably and within customer’s specifications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Treat all co-workers, customers, vendors, and visitors with inherent respect and professionalism.
2. Quotes work opportunities, outsourcing through purchasing, and expedites job costing to customers as requested.
3. Works with Customers and Vendors to gain understanding or transmit data about the Form, Fit, Function and Finish of Customers projects.
4. Engages in continuing education, current technologies, and latest trends relevant to your job position.
5. Monitors competitors’ services to ensure a competitive market edge in selling price and added value.
6. Performs review of individual self-performance to ensure continued improvement.
7. In conjunction with the Production Control Manager, studies production schedules and estimates work[1]hour requirements for completion of job assignment, to provide promise date to customer.
8. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and special instructions to complete estimates.
9. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of service, and suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
10. May manage CNC projects to ensure processes are followed to completion within planned time estimates, assists workers in resolving project problems and achieving performance metrics.
11. May assist with the training of employees on newer, better, faster, and more efficient ways to provide manufacturing solutions.
12. Secures estimates for materials, tooling resources and outsourcing services through purchasing, and
expedites job costing to customers as requested.
13. Secures purchases for materials, tooling resources, and outsourcing services through purchasing to
expedite job processing to customers as requested post contract review and acceptance.
14. Recommends purchases as needed to meet or improve the production schedule.
15. Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities.
16. Works with IT Department to continually improve quoting process.
17. Works with Business Development Manager and Project Engineers to provide competitive and profitable estimates.
18. Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to give/receive instructions and co-ordinate activities.
19. Participate in learning opportunities during non-scheduled work hours.
20. Maintains neat and orderly work area.
21. Participates in the implementation and use of LEAN Manufacturing Tools.
22. Understand, implement, and instruct associates in the application of Customer specific Advanced Product Quality Planning functions with emphasis on PPAP.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Training and Experience: 4 and 10 years of experience with a combination of trade school, vocational education, work experience or apprenticeship.
Work experience to include previous CNC background.
Language Skills: Previous experience working with blueprints, drawings, sketches, and special instructions to complete estimates. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports, correspondence and to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Must have communication skills to satisfy individual customer needs.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Ability to compute basic algebraic, and trigonometric formulas used in shop mathematics.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, CAD Cam, Solid Works, and previous experience working with an ERP system.
Visual Acuity: Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading blueprints, precision measuring instruments, and accommodation as required to pass driver’s test.
