Job Overview

Reporting directly to the President of KMK Consulting Inc. this position involves a broad spectrum of operational responsibilities and requires a wide range of knowledge and experience.

The Controller is tasked with overseeing the extensive variety of duties undertaken by the finance department, including reviewing financial targets and cash flow and supporting individual business units to create and maintain their budgets.

The role of Controller is to maintain all financial systems, identifying areas that require improvement and implementing necessary changes to support business development.

There is one support person who can QC numbers and supports on payroll, but this individual needs to be willing to complete hands on executional tasks, as well as provide strategic guidance to the business.

KMK has ambitious growth plans and is looking for a Controller with a commercial perspective who can look beyond the numbers. A Controller who can grow into the CFO role.

Key responsibilities:

The Controller’s duties will include the following:

  • Preparation of accurate monthly management accounts in a timely manner
  • Hold monthly meetings with Business Unit heads to discuss performance to date against budget and offer a commercial perspective on the results and forecasts.
  • Update cashflow twice per month before each payroll to ensure there is sufficient cash available.
  • Ensure the completion of bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
  • Contributing to company financial strategy and decision-making process
  • Ensuring robust financial systems and processes are in place.
  • Overseeing tax and compliance
  • Developing forecasting models (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow)
  • Work with Business Unit heads to prepare 2024 budget.
  • In 2024 look to upgrade the accounting software from Deltek/Access
  • Submit tax filings yearly.
  • Interact with the IRS as needed for audits.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Highly experienced and able to operate independently in a professional services environment.
  • Has attention to detail.
  • Previous experience of working with minimal direct reports and not being directed by a senior financial team member.
  • Excellent communicator, with both internal and external colleagues at all levels
  • Hard-working, efficient, and motivated by results
  • Ability to analyze data and make recommendations, alongside the capacity to drive through key business changes and execute on operational tasks.
  • Strong business acumen and a strategic understanding of the financials.
  • CPA qualified is preferred.
  • Experience of accounting in countries outside of the US is desirable.
  • Experience with Deltek and Access is desirable.
  • Willing to role up sleeves with day-to-day tasks

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Accounting
  • Oversee India Accounting Financial Reports (correspond with India Accounting Firm)
  • Oversee China Accounting Payroll and Financial Reports (correspond with China Accounting Firm)
  • Prepare Budget/Forecast with Business Units
  • Prepare and Monitor Cash Flow
  • Review Deltek Financial Statements (and adjust accordingly)
  • Prepare month end financial reports (reconcile to Deltek)
  • Conduct Monthly Meetings with BU heads.
  • Oversee month end close, payroll entered, vendors, etc.
  • Liaison between Banks and Accounting Firm
  • Annual Tax Filings (Federal and State Corporate Returns)
  • Annual Tax Filing for 401k (Form 5500)
  • Prepare Draft Bonus for approval (STIP/LTIP)
  • Enter Vendors (W9, W-8)
  • Enter New Hires into Deltek, Ease and Paylocity
  • Monitor 401k (rollovers, distributions, terminated employees, etc)
  • Maintain Deltek (enter in vendors, employees, misc.)
  • Compensation Statements for each Business Unit
  • Reconcile Access Sales to Deltek Sales (prepare Sales Accruals)
  • Reconcile Payroll Reports to Deltek
  • Import AMEX Charges into Deltek
  • Providing Immigration (Sandy/Andrew) with number of employees, as well as maintain tax status in Paylocity.
  • Prepare 1099s for vendors/independent contractors.
  • Work with Paylocity on open issues or questions (Payroll and FSA)
  • Annual Corporate Insurance Renewal (finalize with insurance broker)
