Knife River has an excellent opportunity for a survey instrument operator! As a survey instrument operator, you will be responsible for assisting with proper research prior to going to a job site. Will be expected to accurately collect field data using survey equipment and providing direction in performing various land survey and construction layout operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Previous relevant surveying construction experience, 2 years preferred.
-Must have a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
-Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
-Must meet Knife River-South employment standards with regard to background/MVR checks.
-Must be able to work overtime and be flexible with hours (day time/night time).
-Ability to work outside in all seasons.
-Able to handle multiple responsibilities at one time.
-Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and public at all times.
- Ability to write, type and communicate effectively. Prepare and maintain a variety of records, logs, diaries, and/or other related documentation.
-Ability to be reliable. Timely and regular attendance is essential to this position.
-Have knowledge of mathematical principles.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Perform a variety of land survey operations such as boundary, topography, leveling, design, offset staking, as-built, and maintaining horizontal and vertical control networks utilizing a full range of survey equipment.
-Prepare and verify mathematical calculations related to surveying and basic engineering; computes and adjusts angles, distances, bearings traverses and elevations; interprets and computes field data; evaluates for accuracy and completeness; maintains accurate survey and non-survey related records in the form of field notes, reports and sketches; maintains vertical and horizontal control notes in files, field book and computer.
-Conduct project research, secures equipment, uses safety techniques, performs the survey operation, handles the equipment, records data and performs other associated duties for the purpose of delivering a successful project.
-Prepare and maintain a variety of records, logs, diaries, and/or other related documentation.
-Provide an analysis of record data, deeds, and plats for property and boundary control.
-Track and maintain survey supplies such as stakes and marking equipment; ensures safety devices are present and in use as appropriate.
-May place traffic control devices; may direct traffic.
-Ensure survey truck is fully equipped every day.
-Keep survey truck clean and organized and in proper working order.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Skilled in the use conventional survey equipment, Trimble GPS and other electronic instruments, and related software.
-Have knowledge of mathematical principles.
-Have knowledge and understanding of construction survey terminology.
-Have a knowledge and understanding of field survey methods and techniques.
