Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this classification is to, under general supervision, performs duties related to processing
property assessment data and assisting customers in obtaining information. Duties include but not
limited to; entering limited data (graphical/non-graphical) into database and modifications if needed;
entering transfers from deeds to database system to maintain information; performing general clerical
duties such as typing, filing, copying, and other duties as assigned by the Director Cadastral Mapping.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or
all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Enters data (graphic/non-graphical) into the computer database, making modifications as needed.
- Maintains graphical quality control and database quality control by checking data entered for accuracy
- Enters transfers from deeds to the computer database system to properly maintain information.
- Answers customer questions and provides mapping information for the public and various agencies in
person and over the telephone. - Creates and maintains graphical files to be used for analysis, to be used for reference, or to be merged with other files; archives files as needed.
- Creates, edits, and submits tax maps to be plotted in order to maintain computerized data.
- Answers questions and supplies mapping information to the public and for various agencies.
- Oversees normal maintenance of printers, plotters and other peripheral devices.
- Updates and maintains data as recorded documents, deeds, plats, court orders, and any other recorded legal document are made permanent record with other government agencies.
- Maintains quality historical data as changes are made to the tax maps.
- Provides support and advice to other staff regarding hardware and software issues and problems.
- Locate tax information by description, subdivision information, owner names, and property addresses.
- Assists Mapping Director in transfer of mapping and owner data to the CAMA system for tax role
preparation. - Performs filing duties to maintain an organized system of information for reference.
- Assists in the front office when needed.
- Takes information on address changes and records the information in the system.
- Checks the Register of Deeds records when there is a question on ownership.
- Codes and separates deeds to be filed and distributed to the appropriate parties.
- Checks Wills at Probate Court to change property ownership accordingly.
- Makes copies of various documents and maps as needed by customers or for filing.
Additional Job Functions
- Responds to and reports immediately if called upon by local regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Department of Health.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minumum Training and Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years of Arc GIS experience, or
equivalent education. - Mapping and data management application experience or training is needed. Must
have a sense of detail, organization. - Experience or education with ESRI ArcGIS suite of products (ArcView 9.x) a must.
