What are the responsibilities and job description for the PUBLIC HEALTH FITNESS COORDINATOR position at Knox County, TN?
Purpose of Job
The purpose of this classification is to create, instruct and guide fitness programs for all Knox County Senior Centers.
Essential Functions
The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the following essential functions:
- Create, evaluate and advise on fitness and proper exercise techniques to senior citizens
- Provide group and individual training recommendations
- Train on proper use of fitness equipment and conduct orientation classes for participants on equipment use
- Conduct routine maintenance on fitness equipment
- Coordinate any repairs with outside vendors
- Create promotional material for fitness programs at area senior centers
- Conduct water aerobic classes
- Conduct CPR training class for seniors and staff
- Explains and enforces safety rules.
- Administers emergency first aid, wraps injuries, treats minor chronic disabilities, or refers injured persons to physicians
- Drafts and maintains records and reports related to services and programs provided, which may include tracking attendance, participation, and other metrics.
- Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
- Assists with administrative duties at all area senior centers when needed
- Coordinate health education services for all senior centers
- Attend internal and external health education programs and professional development meetings
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance during scheduled work hours
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Training & Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required: Associates degree preferred
- Minimum of two years’ related experience in health & fitness
- Must possess a valid TN Driver’s license
- Must be a certified CPR/AED instructor
- Must be a certified lifeguard
- Must be a certified fitness instructor/personal trainer
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position

Physical Requirements
- This position requires the ability to engage in frequent moderate physical activity. Prolonged periods of intense physical exertion including running, lifting and stretching. Must be able to lift more than 75 pounds at times.
