Georgia-Pacific is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to join the Welding Quality team (part of the Outage, Planning Center of Excellence) in Atlanta, GA. The Quality Manager will work closely with corporate and mill engineering, project management, procurement, and equipment and construction service suppliers to provide technical support and quality assurance for projects and major maintenance repairs. This role will support the development of a sustainable quality management capability for new and existing assets. .
Our Team
This position will report to the Manager of Welding Quality at our headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, however, due to the amount of travel this role has the option to be Home-Based with preference to SE United States. Candidates must be willing and able to travel up to 70% domestic with possible international travel.
What You Will Do
- Manage internal GP and domestic third-party shop fabrication and field construction inspections – manage schedule, obtain quotes, coordinate inspections, review reports, respond to follow-up issues, escalate issues as necessary, catalog reports on the Asset Total Quality share-point site, and define/report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Provide technical support and quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) support for capital projects and maintenance, including quality plan reviews, pre-fabrication meetings, and fabrication and/or construction inspections.
- Facilitates of innovative technology for efficient use of resources (virtual inspections, reporting tools and database, robotic NDE, etc.)
- Ensure supplier and contractor quality by enforcing quality assurance standards, policies, project quality plans, and code/jurisdictional requirements.
- Assist with effective quality deviation root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions for internal and external customers.
- Develop New construction quality assurance and control standards.
- Lead/Direct resolution of equipment supplier and contractor quality issues.
- Collaborate with other members of the quality organization or industry to share best practices and ensure standardization across business units.
- Collaborate with internal customers and stakeholders e.g., sourcing, project management, engineering, leadership, to meet project goals and expectations.
- Maintain expertise in and suggest improvements for welding, non-destructive evaluation (NDE), quality assurance and control, and applicable codes and standards, including GP standards and guidelines.
- Adapt, improvise and problem solve, as professionally manage multiple tasks and projects effectively and concisely explain complex issues with key supporting data.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent with a minimum 5 years of experience in a quality role (engineer and/or manager) or minimum 10 years in a quality role (engineer and/or manager).
- Experience leading and managing a team.
- Experience in developing and/or maintaining fabrication and construction quality standards.
- Experience supporting capital projects with a high emphasis on equipment supplier or construction quality.
- Ability to read and understand equipment fabrication and construction drawings, standards, and specifications.
- Clear understanding of code quality requirements, including owner and manufacturer's responsibilities (ASME BPVC, ASME Process Piping, API, NBIC, AWS).
- Travel up to 70% in the domestic US and International
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Construction, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering.
- Quality Management and/or Project Management in a manufacturing/field environment.
- Experience leading owner fabrication and/or construction quality on pulp and paper capital projects and/or providing unplanned event welding repair plans.
- Strong knowledge of the fabrication/manufacturing process for process equipment, boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and piping.
- Demonstrated analytical person with direct experience coaching and teaching.
- Proven leadership skills focused on results and managing competing demands.
- Demonstrated total cost of ownership value creation by application of lessons learned to influence change of internal policies, specifications, or standards.
- AWS (Certified Welding Inspector) or CAWI (certified associate welding inspector).
- Experience in being a change agent leading complex transformational activities with demonstrated experience changing culture.
