Georgia-Pacific is seeking qualified professionals to consider for a Safety Coordinator opportunity to support our Gypsum facility located in Savannah, GA. The Safety Coordinator will assist in providing leadership, strategic direction, and support for plant operations. This position will drive safety excellence through promoting employee involvement, ownership, and accountability to proactively identify hazards and implement the appropriate mitigating strategies. The Safety Coordinator will establish Safety & Health (S&H) metrics, goals and benchmarks that drive excellence while aligning and optimizing the Manufacturing Enterprise in delivering value to the business that meet or exceed business and company S&H objectives and requirements.

What You Will Do
- Promote safety with all team members aligned with our Principle Based Management™ culture to help the facility embrace and achieve our Path to Zero Safety Strategy
- Provide support to the Safety Manager by assisting (establishing and sustaining) S&H ownership and understanding of the S&H Management Systems
- Participate in the case management process for facility incidents and injuries
- Serve as a point of contact for all team members to understand and support S&H daily activities
- Planning, scheduling, and oversight compliance systems projects including natural gas, propane, and fire protection systems
- Participate in the development and implementation of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards
- Provide support in the development, improvement, and implementation of training systems to meet facility needs
- Conduct Safety & Health training to employees, contractors, etc. as required and needed
- Drive continuous improvement using tools and activities, including self-assessments and audit processes, incident/near miss investigations, metrics and targets (leading and lagging indicators), and periodic reviews of performance, culture, and talent
- Provide coaching and mentoring to facilitate safety ownership on the production floor
- Develop systems/methods for identifying hazards and evaluating risk in existing and future equipment, processes, operations (i.e. risk assessments, near misses, etc.)
- Prescribe control solutions to eliminate hazards and causes of loss events and to reduce the chance of loss when hazards cannot be eliminated
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
Must have one of the following:
- Two (2) or more years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
OR
- Bachelor of Science Degree
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or progress towards achieving certification(s)
- Experience reading and understanding technical documents and exploded diagrams
- Experience with OSHA regulations such as LOTO and Confined Space
- Experience with implementing Process Safety Management Elements
