GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Budget Analyst supports a variety of accounting functions related to budgeting, forecasting, accounting controls, financial statement preparation, and ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and correct classification of amounts recorded and reported.

The Budget Analyst I is focused on rate data input, analysis, and reconciliations for forecasting, spending, and overhead rates. The Budget Analyst II is focused on forecasting and spending analysis, forecast model management, overhead rates preparation, and reporting. The Budget Analyst III is focused on management of forecasting models, overhead rate reporting, preparation of financial statements, and audit response.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Budget Analyst I

  • Assists in updating data inputs for financial models related to the development of budgets, forecasts, and overhead rates.
  • Reconciles major overhead base values (direct labor costs and hours, direct materials, etc.).
  • Assists in monitoring actual to forecasted rates.
  • Analyzes department spending against plan and monitors the accuracy, timeliness, and correct classification of amounts recorded and reported.
  • Supports analysis, reviews, and audits to ensure that the established accounting policies and procedures are adhered to on an ongoing basis.
  • Assists in General Ledger accounting and prepares cost reconciliations.

Budget Analyst II

  • Assists in updating all financial models related to the development of the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and annual forecast rate proposals.
  • Responsible for updating all financial models related to the development of forecast capital expenditures, fixed assets, depreciation, and related cash flows.
  • Supports the development of company overhead rates and assists in monitoring actual to forecasted rates.
  • Analyzes department spending against plan and reviews the accuracy, timeliness, and correct classification of amounts recorded and reported, including detailed reviews of capital expenditures and fixed assets.
  • Supports analysis, reviews, and audits to ensure that the established accounting policies and procedures are adhered to on an ongoing basis.
  • Assists in General Ledger accounting, prepares month end journal entries related to expense adjustments, and performs cost reconciliations.
  • Assists in all internal and external financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting).
  • Assists in research and response preparation for internal, external, and government audits.

Budget Analyst III

  • Supports updating and maintaining all financial models related to the development of the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and annual forecast rate proposals.
  • Assists in the development of forward rate proposals spanning multiple years.
  • Responsible for updating all financial models related to the development of forecast labor and related costs, including benefits, payroll taxes, training costs, etc.
  • Supports the development of company overhead rates and assists in monitoring actual to forecasted rates.
  • Analyzes department spending against plan and ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and correct classification of amounts recorded and reported, including detailed reviews of direct and indirect labor and related costs.
  • Supports ensuring that the established accounting policies and procedures are adhered to on an ongoing basis, through assessment, review, and audit.
  • Assists in General Ledger accounting, prepares month end journal entries related to labor adjustments, and performs cost reconciliations.
  • Assists in all internal and external financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting).
  • Assists in research and response preparation for internal, external, and government audits.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The education and experience listed below apply to and build upon all successive levels of Budget Analyst.

Budget Analyst I

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance.
  • Basic understanding of accounting and financial statements.
  • Good computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • 0-1 years managerial accounting experience.

Budget Analyst II

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in managerial or financial accounting.
  • Working knowledge and experience with accounting processes, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Budget Analyst III

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in managerial or financial accounting.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with accounting processes, reconciliations, financial statements, and forecasting.
  • Working knowledge of overhead rates preparation may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office environment
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • May work extended hours or weekends

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 0-5% May be required between KUAS locations.
