KRGV-TV5 in Weslaco, Texas has the following vacancy: Sports Director
KRGV Channel 5 News (ABC) located in the warm and beautiful Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. (Brownsville - McAllen, Texas, DMA #83) is looking for a dynamic and energetic weekday Sports Anchor who will also serve as Sports Director to lead our dynamic and top-rated, award-winning five person sports team across our television and digital platforms. You will work hand in hand with our Spanish sports team as one-team, to plan for special sports projects, primarily high school football coverage.
You will work with the News Director and Assistant News Director to plan coverage for high school sports playoff coverage (football, basketball, soccer, baseball and softball) and Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans training camps. Beginning in 2025 our university, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), will begin its division one football program as part of the Southland Conference. KRGV already is a huge partner with the university and expects that to increase for next year.
We are looking for a sports anchor that loves local sports and stays on top of state and regional sports, too, but does not regurgitate highlights. The best candidate must be able to compliment a veteran news team. You will also cover games and practices and be able to shoot, write, edit, write for the web and keep scores updated and do live reports and sportscasts at local sporting events as needed. You will be producing your own sportscast and will need to help with shooting and editing.
Your reel should demonstrate ability to: anchor, report, write, shoot, edit, produce, and excel at live shots. We are looking for a sports anchor who is a leader, who can work independently, and coach his/her sports team.
This is a Full-Time position.
Requirements:
- College degree in broadcast journalism or related field is preferred
- A minimum of (2) years as a commercial TV Sports Anchor/Reporter (required).
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
- Knowledge of ENPS and Edius editing programs a plus
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required
