FLSA STATUS: Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Salary

POSITION SUMMARY: The Aquatic Manager will oversee the daily operations of the aquatic venue and maintain a safe protocol for staff, members, guests. Specific responsibilities will include development, training, planning, management, budgeting and supervision of all aquatic programs and facilities. Oversee daily maintenance of (2) pools and (1) jacuzzi. The Aquatic Manager will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the way he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in developing, training, planning, managing, budgeting, and supervising aquatic programs and facilities including professional staff, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Swimming rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of software applications including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of five years of management experience in aquatic and/or recreation.
  • Experience in swimming program development and administration.
  • Familiarity with Hawaii and local culture.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

  • LGI/T Certification (required within 12 months of hiring)
  • Certification by and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis. (required)
  • Current and Valid Hawaii Driver’s license and insured transportation
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification (preferred)
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) (preferred)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Spearhead an aggressive aquatic safety and emergency response training program to include training and in-service for the lifeguard staff on a regular consistent basis, and for all other employees as recommended.

  • Give oversight to the day-to-day operations and monitor all programs relevant to the Aquatic programs and facilities (e.g. Swim meets, classes, clubs, events).
  • Serve as the primary contact for member service issues related to the Aquatic department, ensuring that member recommendations or concerns are resolved or addressed within 24 hours. Must model excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with other staff members at all levels
  • Ensure that Aquatic area cleanliness and housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
  • Oversee and be responsible for the pool preventive maintenance program.
  • Develop systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the aquatic program. Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Give supervision to aquatic support staff, including instructors, coaches, lifeguards, and clerical staff.
  • Perform regular evaluations and review all punch details reports for staff and make sure that they are processing daily, absence reports, vacation requests and working in cooperation with human resources to process all hire, change, and termination personnel cases promptly.
  • Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers, and program participants. This will include writing of internal memos, weekly department meetings, work schedules, flyers newsletters and one on one discussion.
  • Assist, maintain and update the writing of job descriptions for support staff of the aquatic programs and facilities.
  • Maintain the annual budget preparation of the aquatic program and facilities of the RJKCCC. Give input as needed and be available to give answers about expenditures and other fiscal related matters concerning the aquatic program and facilities.
  • Support Kroc Center Wide Employee, Member, Community, and Ministry Events by providing appropriate staffing levels and aquatic leadership and aquatic leadership presence.
  • Establish and maintain guidelines related to the aquatic facilities with regard to the use of food and beverages and assigned areas.
  • Create and maintain an office support system that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping, including the areas of statistical reports, record of volunteer activity, accounting of expenditures and other reporting as required.
  • Meet all required deadlines.
  • Establish working objectives for volunteers that will assist in the aquatic programs and facilities, work with volunteer coordinator on the scheduling and specific duties for volunteers.
  • Develop usage (rental) agreements and standardized usage fees, based on fair market values, for outside groups who wish to rent the aquatic facilities (i.e., contracts). See that these are processed according to Salvation Army procedures.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings and participate in related Advisory Council Committees as assigned by the RJKCCC administrator.
  • Drive TSA vehicles when required.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with the internal Departments, discussing the availability of the swimming pools and their services to the other programs of the RJKCCC.
  • Develop unique programs that cross multiple functional areas in other Departments of RJKCCC.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the RJKCCC.
  • Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor who is an ordained minister of religion.
  • Establish and maintain a written Emergency Disaster Evacuation Plan and a Fire Drill Plan for the aquatic center.
  • Create and maintain safety documentation including checklists, i.e., ride testing, slide dispatcher training etc.
  • Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. Be available to work a flexible schedule that includes working on holidays, weekends, and evenings.
  • Maintain employee and organization confidentiality.
  • Support the Assistant Center Director for Programs with special projects and requests as needed.
  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds; traveling by airplane. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry over 100 pounds (life saving drills).
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the aquatic programs.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

The Aquatic Manager must have excellent oral and written communication skills and can comfortably speak in public and in small group settings.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone (office and cell), video projectors, sound-systems, microphones, audio-visual and lighting equipment, 10-key calculator, and automobile.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work will be at The Salvation Army Kroc Center Hawaii. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, and extended travel of three days or more.
