The Tax accountant will be focused on optimizing our sales and use tax process and is passionate about tax, assist with multi-state sales and use tax compliance and general ledger account reconciliations. In addition, you will have opportunities to be involved in sales and use tax audits and special projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensures accurate and timely filing of all sales and use tax returns for multiple states
- Researches and resolves sales and use tax issues and inquiries
- Evaluates tax positions of certain contracts
- Executes all tax exemption certificates as needed
- Utilizes CRM and ERP systems to track and manage customer data
- Analyzes and reconciles all balance sheet accounts related to tax
- Provides support during audits related to sales and use tax
- Assists in preparation of all yearly tax returns
- Works within the accounting team and overall be a team player in the company
- Approve VAT tax returns filed by Avalara and coordinate payment of related liability
- Ensure that periodic VAT journals are recorded in the GL on a timely basis
- Assist with tax registrations, as necessary
- Collaborates with other accounting team members to ensure consistency and accuracy in financial records
- Assists with developing and maintaining standard operating procedures for accounting processes when applicable
- Develops and implements strategies for improving sales and use tax accounting processes
- Provides financial reporting as requested by supervisor
- Facilitates month-end, quarter-end and year-end close tasks related to taxes
- Maintains knowledge of current tax laws and regulations related to sales and use tax
- Assists in revenue accounting tasks as needed
- Completes special projects as assigned by supervisor
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, tax or equivalent
- CPA certification is a plus
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of sales & use tax required
- Knowledge in sales and use tax accounting is a must
- Proficiency in CRM (Customer Relationship management) software is essential
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary
- Must be able to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks
- Experience with tax software systems is advantageous (Avalara)
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook and SharePoint
- Experience with Sage 300 or other similar multi-entity integrated accounting software
- Well organized, proactive, must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced quickly changing environment
- Ability to adhere to highest standards of confidentiality and discretion in all proprietary business, financial, and employee matters
- Excellent understanding of English, both written and verbal required; ability to communicate in a professional, knowledgeable, and courteous manner with employees, clients, vendors, business contacts
- Ability to adhere to a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to maintain open, direct, positive, and objective lines of communication with management
- Ability to be self-directed in a team-oriented environment
- Position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, and occasional walking and standing.
