What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Nurse Extern (temp 48hrs) position at KSB Hospital?
The Nurse Extern program in collaboration with Sauk Valley Community College nursing course, NRS051 - Integration to Nursing Practice, will allow nursing students with an opportunity to work directly with mentoring RNs, facilitating the student's ability to experience real-world patient care. Nurse Externs will gain skills in patient assessment, prioritization, team collaboration, and provision of care within their scope.
Summer Nurse Externship - Mon, Tues, Wed each week. (48 hrs per pay pd) Begins first week of June, ends last week of July for total of 8 weeks. Pay rate is $15/hr.
- Completion of one year of Registered Professional Nurse training at an approved, accredited school with clinical rotations in an acute care setting
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Graduate of an approved Nurse Assistant training program
- Must be eligible on the Illinois Nurse Aide Registry
- Documentation of the successful completion of an approved Nursing Assistant competency examination and subsequent licensure
- Current CPR required

Wears ID Badge at all times. When lifting heavy items always use proper lifting techniques. Addresses Employee/Patient incidents promptly, identifies and mitigates risks, follows Hand Hygiene guidelines, medication reconciliation (if applicable), and ventilator use (if applicable) all in accordance with KSB policies.

- Required In-Services all applicable required in-services have been completed for the evaluation year.
