Investment Internship – Fall 2023/Spring 2024
The Opportunity
The investment internship at KU Endowment provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to interact with some of the world’s leading institutional investment managers and work across asset classes to gain experience in portfolio construction, manager selection, risk management, and
investment operations. This is a paid position ($18.50/hour) with flexible hours (Monday-Friday) for 10- 20 hours per week.
The KU Endowment Investment Department
The KU Endowment provides a permanent source of capital to support current and future generations of Jayhawks. KU Endowment’s investment assets are divided among two pools of capital: a $2 billion long-term portfolio and a $500m short-term portfolio. These portfolios utilize external managers and are managed by a six-person team located at KU Endowment’s offices on West Campus. The long-term portfolio is invested globally in a diversified set of traditional equities and fixed-income securities as well as alternatives, including hedge funds, private equity, real estate, natural resources, and alternative credit. The short-term portfolio is comprised mainly of fixed-income strategies.
Candidate Profile
Successful candidates will demonstrate a keen intellectual curiosity that drives a passion for investing along with strong analytical skills. Applicants must have achieved junior status (as of Fall 2023), but there are no required courses or prerequisites; the internship is open to all majors. Candidates with demonstrated interest and capabilities in core investing skills, including accounting, economics, statistics, and finance, will merit consideration.
Position Summary
Responsibilities will include quantitative and qualitative research and analysis related to investment managers, asset classes, portfolio management, asset allocation, risk management, and investment operations. As the intern progresses through the program, he/she may be given more latitude to research the topics of most interest to them and the Investment Department.
