What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Kumon?
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance through preparation of the company’s financial schedules and reports. The Staff Accountant must possess excellent time management, organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities. The Staff Accountant must have experience with ERP accounting software programs (like Ceridian Dayforce). Strong technology skills are critical, particularly an expertise with Microsoft Excel.
Responsibilities:
Maintaining fixed assets subledgers and depreciation schedules
Preparing and filing of sales & use tax and other business tax returns and reports
Verifying payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
Maintaining the general ledger
Performing account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and intercompany general ledger accounts
Assisting with initial internal control evaluations
Preparing and posting monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals
Preparing monthly balance sheets, income statements, and financial reports for management
Providing support to the Accounting Managers during the semi-annual and year-end financial audits
Assisting the Accounting Managers with any tax examinations conducted by federal, state or local government agencies
Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
Assisting the Finance Department, other team members, and the Accounting Managers as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned
Experience:
3-4 years of proven Staff Accountant experience required
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and CAN GAAP
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Strong technology skills are critical, particularly an expertise with Microsoft Excel
