L.L.Bean is currently searching for a Technical Designer II specializing in Footwear to join our Technical Design team located in Freeport, Maine. Position Purpose: Responsible for footwear product line from development though commercialization process. Works with department leadership to evaluate and set specifications and construction standards that align to commercialized standards. Responsibilities include fit, fit consistency, functionality, quality, and construction. Creates accurate product specifications that are approved within corporate timeline. Responsible for producing first patterns from concepts provided by Design organization, which accurately reflect design intent and achieve correct silhouette and fit. Responsibilities: Interpret design direction and create initial and final specifications package. Prepare and publish specifications and technical drawings in design/development system. Maintains integrity of data within design/development system utilizing established processes. Develop and approve technical specifications, fit and construction for production. Ensure product design and functional and consistent with the standards of L.L.Bean. Ensure corporate timelines are met. Ensure standards are documented, consistent and effectively communicated to Sr. Management, Merchandising, Sourcing, Vendors, and staff members as needed. Participate in corporate projects to implement change. Evaluate and track samples through commercialization process. Maintain tracking documents and analyze tracking documents. Prioritize sessions based on corporate timelines. Measure and evaluate footwear for fit and construction. Lead fit sessions Diagnose fit problems and communicates pattern, construction, and fit changes and corrections. Make fit recommendations for catalog copy. Travel to domestic and offshore vendors to communicate L.L.Bean quality and fit standards. Education Level:2-Year Associates Degree or industry equivalent experience Years of Experience: 7 years Skills and Qualifications: Associates degree or industry equivalent required 7 years of relevant experience required Expertise and in-depth knowledge of footwear Understands footwear construction, terminology and fit Working knowledge and experience of pattern making Familiarity of manufacturing Strategic thinker Excellent communication skills Excellent computer skills including CAD or PDM (Product Data Management) Solid technical drawing skills Facilitation skills Strong analytical, interpersonal, and influencing skills Thorough understanding of the L.L.Bean customer Good attention to detail Experience working in a multi-cultural environment Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment Ability to lift/carry 20lbs. on a regular basis If you care about the outdoors, joining L.L.Bean is a great way to feel good about what you do.
