Sexual Assault Hospital Advocate Job Description
Hours: 10PM-6AM
Duration of Job:
A minimum commitment of one year is requested.
Location of Work:
Meet victim/survivors at area hospitals located within Caddo, Bossier, and Webster parishes. For obvious safety concerns; a Hospital Advocate is not allowed to meet a victim anywhere else other than the designated medical facility.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for Sexual Assault On-Call Response.
- Meet the victim/survivors at area hospitals and provide crisis intervention, emotional support, along with decision-making guidance in a non-judgmental and non-imposing way during the hospital exam and police questioning.
- Provide accurate information on all aspects of sexual abuse, which may include medical and legal information.
- Provide the victim with specific information about the hospital exam, STDs and pregnancy information.
- Provide accurate referral to the appropriate professional sources.
- Provide information about the crisis line, court liaison and counseling services available through Project Celebration and/or any other appropriate agencies.
- Responsible for collection and maintenance of client records and service data.
- Appropriate and accurate use and timely submission of all Agency management and client related forms (should be submitted within 2 business days of service).
- Attend meetings which will be held to exchange information, as well as participate in in-service training sessions.
- Hospital Advocates could be asked to appear at future court hearings. Please notify the Director of Project Celebration Sexual Assault Crisis Center if you are subpoenaed.
Qualifications:
- Complete 40 hours of training.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with the identified client population or one that is transferable.
- Experience in working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to issues of social justice.
- Demonstrate ability to work in diverse teams.
- Ability to expand communication style to multiple cultural environments.
- Ability to network with other professionals within and outside the Agency on behalf of the client population.
- Minimum of Associates in Social Work or a related field; or minimum two years of experience in social services or a related field
