What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitor - Overnight Shift position at La Tortilla Factory?

This role is a critical member to our Sanitation team and is responsible for maintaining the integrity of product quality and safety by ensuring that all production equipment, structural and storage facilities, offices, restrooms, resting areas, parking lots, depots, and transportation equipment are in compliance with Sanitary, GMP's (Good Manufacturing Processes), Federal, State and local food protection standards, and Company programs.
This position is on our graveyard shift, schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00pm to 4:30am. Full-time position offering at least 40 hours per week with occasional overtime as needed.
WHAT THE JOB ENTAILS:
- Able to read and understand written SSOP’s (Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures) for equipment cleaning/sanitizing applications
- Responsible for working from a weekly work planner which identifies daily, weekly and periodic cleaning assignments for each week which is reviewed and signed off at the end of the week by both employee and management
- Understand the importance of gluten free cleaning guidelines as prescribed by written GFSSOP’s (Gluten Free Standard Operation Procedures) and can successfully meet these standards when assigned
- Able to work with cleaning compounds and sanitizers in a safe and effective manner
- Maintains and secures company issued tools used for cleaning applications
- Understand how to access SDS (Safety Information Sheets) as required for chemicals used in the work place
- Wear and maintain PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) that must be worn (safety glasses, rubber boots, rubber aprons, gloves etc.) in the workplace
- Use proper lock-out/tag-out equipment as required when needed cleaning specific pieces of equipment
- Safely operate industrial cleaning equipment (pressure washer, wet vacuum & floor scrubber) as required
- Able to use various size ladders for accessing areas of equipment or structural surfaces when cleaning
- Use power lifts (when authorized and trained) to take out waste materials from production areas
- Able to operate bailing equipment safely for the purpose of bailing cardboard and/or plastic materials
- Safely operate the compacting equipment for both landfill waste and bakery waste.
- Maintains the Sanitation storage areas (chemical shed, chemical cage and supply shed) in a neat and orderly fashion
- Notify management when food stored pest activity is noted when cleaning specific equipment or areas of the plant
- Helps set up canopies, tables, chairs for special events as requested by management from time to time
- Able to work along the roof top when cleaning and servicing the air handling and exhaust systems
- Responds to QC Techs requests as needed when the cleaning or sanitizing of production equipment is necessary at start-up
- Communicates to management as required when problems exists on the production floor that might have an effect on food safety, product quality or downtime with equipment
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS):
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or up to two years related experience in food plant sanitation or janitorial work
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as work planners, SSOP’s, SDS’s, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
- Work independently for long periods of time.

- Prompt and regular attendance onsite is required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Able to work in extreme weather conditions during the rainy season or heat from summer temperatures (indoors/outdoors)
- Able to use the access ladder to roof for servicing air handling ventilation equipment on a periodic basis
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and bend at the hips
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Able to communicate well in a noisy work environment using company issued two way radios
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
