Summary
The Investigator Support Services (ISS) Manager is responsible for overseeing daily activities of sample receipt, accessioning, day of receipt specimen shipment, and other duties required to meet the customer expectations. Additionally, they will establish and maintain relationships internally as well as externally with clients, investigator sites, and laboratories.

Language Ability
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and clients.
Math Ability
Ability to perform calculations and apply mathematical concepts to metrics analyses, labor forecasting and expected future specimen receipt.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, the individual must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint, as well as an aptitude for learning new database software quickly. SharePoint and Microsoft Visio experience a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Will manage ISS team with support from team supervisors.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to dry ice and cold. Must handle biological samples.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all day-to-day activities within the Accessioning team in ISS.
- Responsible for ensuring all customer inquiries and concerns are addressed.
- Ensures that investigator sites are contacted regarding specimen integrity issues.
- Serves as the on-site advocate for the clinical investigator sites, contract research organizations and pharmaceutical sponsors, ensuring proper and timely handling of questions, concerns and complaints.
- Coordinate/develop procedures and training tools for daily operations.
- Knowledgeable with regards to protocols handled by the ISS Department.
- Responsible for forecasting labor resourcing and scheduling
- Responsible for oversight of receipt of specimens and order entry related to clinical trials.
- Responsible for oversight of problem resolution in specimen management, demographic omissions and errors and report distribution.
- Reviews customer requests for service to define appropriate response to client needs.
- Communicates in a timely manner with cross functional teams and operations staff to ensure client expectations are met.
- Responsible for staff performance evaluations, performance competancies and performance improvement plans.
- Reviews and analyzes operational, quality, and performance related metrics to assess the success of sample management activities.
- Participates in client audits.
- Quality event initiation, investigation, and resolution
- Liaises with managers/supervisors in other departments to stay informed of operational changes.
- Participates in study setup, ensuring requisition development is adequate for the needs of the study and that the requisition functions as intended.
- Configuring and maintaining laboratory attributes in the LIS.
- Participate in corporate initiatives including increased offerings, services, etc.
- Performs other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned.
Education/Experience
- B.S. 4 year college degree, preferably in a laboratory science. MS degree in a related Science field or Business is preferred.
- 4 years laboratory experience including blood handling, preferable in a central laboratory setting.
- 4 years supervisory or management experience
- Strongly preferred: ASCP certification in Medical Technology
Required Skills
- Proven high level of skills in clinical or central laboratory setting with sample analysis.
- Strong understanding of requirements for analysis of clinical samples.
- Experience with universal precaution and human specimens.
- Excellent attention to details, strong planning and problem solving skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, communication, multitasking, interpersonal and active listening skills.
- Excellent listening and verbal comprehension skills, including ability to translate client needs to team members
- Ability to make quick but well-thought out decisions, and adapt to changing environments and requirements.

- Ability to adhere to established timelines, processes and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database software.
