The Southeast Division of LabCorp is seeking a Technical Director, located in Tampa, FL. LabCorp Tampa is a regional reference laboratory, servicing 50,000 patients per day. The business provides clinical and anatomic laboratory services for the commercial business of LabCorp. The primary clinical testing areas at the Tampa laboratory are Chemistry, Hematology, Flow Cytometry, Immunohematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Molecular microbiology. Active Histology and Cytology departments are also on site.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the technical component of the laboratory to ensure that patient results are reported reliably
Ensure accuracy for all testing in the lab, including instrument performance and addressing root causes when issues arise
Review and approve validation plans and studies, ensuring accurate and timely data is provided
Guide implementation of new assays and instrumentation in lab
Assist the Quality department to ensure all required regulations are followed
Effectively communicate with clients, physicians, pathologists and LabCorp staff, including Science Technology and Laboratory teams
Support business development by working with sales and management to address customer needs
Project credibility and build rapport with LabCorp clients
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
PhD in Physical Sciences or MD
Board Certification from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry in one or more disciplines, or equivalent clinical board program.
Deductive reasoning/analytical skills to reach resolution to customer inquiries or lab opportunities/issues
Depth and breadth of experience within a clinical lab, understanding validation, quality control, proficiency testing, regulatory requirements
Influence/leadership skills to work with lab staff, developing their capabilities and enrolling them in problem-solving/urgent matters – great item to have add bullet above regarding this
Knowledge of quality standards and accountable for providing accurate results
Ability to respond to stressful, urgent situations
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people at all levels of the organization
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present materials effectively to executives.
