What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Engine Sales position at Laborde Products, Inc.?
At Laborde Products, we have a history of developing foreign engine brands in the North American market and are currently looking for an experienced outside sales professional with a marine engine background to increase engine sales in our coastal eastern territory (North Carolina to Maine). We are a Mitsubishi Marine diesel engine distributor, selling engines ranging from 400hp to 1676hp as well as generators and barge power units.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct a minimum of 5 professional sales presentations or demonstrations of company products and services per week while onsite at customer locations.
- Build and foster a network of referrals to create new opportunities for revenue growth.
- Generate and develop new customer accounts to increase revenue, by cold calling if necessary.
- Penetrate all targeted accounts and radiate sales from within client base.
- Maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the company in a positive manner.
- Overcome objections of prospective customers.
- Ensure follow-up by passing leads to department managers with calls-to-action, dates, complete profile information, sources, and so on.
- Actively manage call schedule to cover assigned territory.
- Utilize marketing data using applicable sales management software tools to maximize sales efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate records, including sales call reports, expense reimbursement forms, billing invoices, and other documentation.
- Conduct information-only presentations, such as seminars, trade show demonstrations, and other efforts as needed.
- Establish front-line assessment of market conditions and advise department managers and marketing staff of findings.
- Build and maintain ongoing awareness of new products and services, competitor activities, and other industry research.
- May perform other duties as required by business needs.
Qualifications we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
- 3 years of outside sales experience with experience in the maritime industry preferred.
- Working knowledge of marine vessel systems, such as diesel engine principles, keel cooling, gearboxes, and propellors, etc.
- Experience with building dealer relationships and selling through dealers.
- Experience with customer relationship management software – preferably Salesforce.
- Experience in delivering presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
- Solid experience in opportunity qualification, pre-visit planning, call control, account development, and time and territory management.
- Demonstrated success in qualifying opportunities involving multiple key decision makers.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Central East Coast of the United States (Norfolk, VA to Philadelphia, PA).

Work Schedule and Benefits:
- This position requires at least 50% travel to cover the assigned territory and often includes several hours of driving per day.
- You will work in a home office on Mondays and will be out selling for the remainder of the week.
