Assistant Preschool Teacher
Overview
Ladybug Preschool is a one-room school for children ranging from two and half to five years old.
Our approach is to develop the whole child through play-based exploration, the arts, and community building experiences. Both of our beautiful facilities feature a one-room school and private outdoor play space. We offer school year and summer programs at both locations.
The ideal candidate will have preschool or daycare experience and is passionate about working with children. This position is ideal for a self-starter who wants to be part of a small growing school. The assistant teacher takes an active role in both our school year and summer program and reports to the Lead Teacher and Preschool Director.
Responsibilities
Classroom and Student Support
● Works with Lead Teacher to provide a safe and nurturing environment that encourages children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
● Assists in the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum including individual, small and large group activities, both indoors and outdoors.
● Maintains positive relationships with families, children, colleagues, and supervisors.
● Ensure safety and supervision of children at all times by fulfilling critical health and safety duties.
Community Environment
● Supports a positive classroom environment in which all members respect and show kindness toward each other.
● Follows school model for classroom and behavior management.
● Collaborates with teachers and staff to support the classroom, school events and special projects.
Classroom Environment
● Interacts with children frequently, affectionately, and respectfully at their level in all settings.
● Encourages and models social behavior and expectations that are developmentally appropriate.
● Uses positive guidance techniques when responding to children's behavior.
● Gives children full attention.
● Responds promptly and appropriately to their needs.
● Ensures the classroom is ready for lessons and maintains a safe and clean environment.
● Assists teachers in preparing the lesson materials if needed.
Professional Development
● Completes professional development hours as required by NYC & NYS
● Regularly reflect and make modifications to grow as an educator
● Attends staff meetings and professional development workshops
Other
● Provides coverage for breaks for other staff members.
● Assists in any other appropriate ways as requested by the Lead teacher or Preschool
Director.
● Other related duties, as assigned, consistent with above.
Requirements:
● 18 years or older
● HS Diploma or GED
● Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and willing to keep up with vaccination requirements
● Able to complete Department of Health requirements such as fingerprinting
Start Date & Hours
*July 2023
*12 months position, 8am to 6pm daily
*4 weeks paid vacation (school breaks) 11 paid holidays (school closed)
*Paid sick time
