The primary responsibility of this job is to assist the Administrator with day-to-day operations of the facility. Duties include all aspects of resident care, staffing, fiscal and facility management. In addition, the Assistant Administrator must serve as a facility liaison with the medical community, vendors, residents and their families. Requirements
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Administrator in implementing established resident care policies, personnel policies and all other facility policies and procedures to maintain compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Serve as a liaison to the Governing Board, medical staff, other professionals and all facility departments.
- Review and evaluate all recommendations of the facility’s committees and consultants such as Quality Assurance, safety etc.
- Ensure that a sufficient number of people are employed in order to meet resident care needs and that the facility admits only residents for whom it can provide exceptional care.
- Ensure that each resident’s rights are protected; ensure the right to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights including the right to lodge a complaint are strictly enforced.
- Abide by and enforce the facility policies and procedures, by-laws, as well as work and safety rules.
- Provide guidance to supervisory staff, including participation in and/or leadership of in-service for facility staff.
- Participate in surveys and inspections as conducted by authorized government agencies.
- Any other duties and responsibilities requested by the Owner and/or Governing Board, including the monitoring of preventive maintenance reports and preparation of other reports required by management.
- Become a participating facility team member, with the residents as first priority. This includes preventing abuse, neglect and exploitation in the elderly, as well as promoting a safe, clean environment in which the residents may live.
- Attend facility meetings and chair the committee if indicated.
- Make rounds daily in order to monitor the environment, resident care issues and staff performance. Complete performance evaluations on department heads.
- Responsible for financial transactions, preparing budgets and financial reports and ensuring the proper disbursement of money and recording of such transactions, as needed.
- Act as a liaison between the facility and all resident advocacy agencies.
- Act as a liaison between the facility and regulatory agencies.
- Arbitrate complaints and disputes concerning residents, families, or personnel.
- Arrange with appropriate state and legal agencies for guardianship of those residents in need.
- Assume responsibility for notifying appropriate state and local agencies of the transfer, temporary or permanent discharge, or death of any resident receiving Medicaid funds.
- Assume responsibility with department supervisors of ensuring adequate staffing.
- Define standard operating procedures for physician practices.
- Develop one-to-one relationships with residents and families.
- Develop relationships with community agencies providing services of benefit to the facility.
- Ensure license is current and all requirements for licensure have been met at all times.
- Ensure that all necessary supplies are purchases and available.
- Establish systems to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
- Inform appropriate agencies of changes in facility personnel, as required.
- Interpret all federal, state, and local regulations for the facility staff.
- Participate in the scheduling, planning, and procuring of materials and information for staff meeting and in-service education programs.
- Supervise the confidentiality and safe storage of current and closed resident records, personnel records, and physical plant records with regulatory requirements.
- Supervise recruitment, employment, evaluation, promotion, and discharge of staff.

LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Must hold a current Nursing Home Administrator's license and be in good standing with the Mississippi Nursing Home Administration licensing board; must possess a 4-year degree in a related field.
SUMMARY OF OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:
Tasks and procedures performed by the employee involve risks classified by CDC as Category III. (No contact with blood or other bodily fluids to which universal precautions apply, if regular duties are performed.)
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to tolerate a high pace as typical for a nursing facility. Must be able to take and give instructions well and enjoy working with the elderly. Although employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time, he/she must also be able to tolerate prolonged standing and walking.
