Reporting to the Vice President of Inclusion, the Executive Director of Intercultural Development holds a pivotal role in molding campus culture. This position is instrumental in fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and truly heard. By offering unwavering leadership and strategic guidance, the Executive Director will spearhead creating and maintaining a campus atmosphere that staunchly upholds principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging.

In close collaboration with students, campus partners, alumni, staff, and faculty, the Executive Director will act as the primary liaison, ensuring the creation and maintenance of an inclusive and equitable campus environment for students supported by the Office of Intercultural Development (OID) which includes BIPOC students, LGBTQ students, and other underrepresented students groups, as well as for the broader campus community.

Position Overview:

As the primary architect of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community, the Executive Director of Intercultural Development will:

  • Serve as the cornerstone for fostering dialogue and collaboration among students, employees, and alumni concerning Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging issues.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at promoting understanding and respect across cultural intersections.
  • Forge partnerships with off-campus communities to enrich our campus experience.
  • Collaborate with students, staff, and faculty to conceive and execute impactful programs and events.
  • Fortify connections between OID and the wider campus community.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide dynamic leadership and strategic direction for the Office of Intercultural Development.
  • Conceptualize, implement, and champion educational, cultural, and social programs and services through OID, designed to enhance students’ academic success and personal growth.
  • Devise strategies to offer college-wide services that deepen the campus community’s understanding and appreciation of underrepresented student groups, cultures, and themes.
  • Offer support, advocacy, and outreach programs for underrepresented student groups, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  • Establish a robust program structure providing learning and engagement opportunities that promote awareness, equity, and inclusion among underrepresented student groups.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and evaluations of student learning outcomes, adapting programs to meet evolving student and college needs.
  • Lead alumni, parent/family, and community outreach efforts on behalf of OID.
  • Collaborate with college departments to develop and implement strategies addressing issues affecting the quality of life of underrepresented student groups.
  • Develop and sustain collaborative initiatives and partnerships advocating for educational equity across multiple minoritized identities.
  • Partner with leadership in the Division of Student Life to ensure seamless communication and consistency in support for students.
  • Liaise with academic and student life offices, such as Admissions, the Office of Advising and Co-curricular Programs, and other campus partners, to support recruitment and retention efforts of underrepresented student groups.
  • Lead the budget planning process for OID and oversee its annual budget.

Supervision:
This position provides guidance, direction, and supervision to the Associate Director, Assistant Director, and Assistant Director of International Student Advising, as well as some guidance and direction to the Administrative Coordinator assigned to support the Office of Intercultural Development.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Higher Education, Psychology, Intercultural Studies, or related field of study ) and five to seven years of professional experience in higher education.
  • Proven experience in supervising professional staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in intercultural programming, community engagement, or related areas.
  • Passion for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree and seven to ten years of experience in higher education.
