Technical/Communications Specialist
Title: Technical/Communications Specialist
Supervision: Director of Worship
Compensation: Full-time, Exempt
General Job Description:
The Technical Specialist has the daily responsibility for the technical operations of Lake Deaton United Methodist Church including lighting, sound, video, and coordination of necessary staff to operate and maintain AVL and network equipment. They will also oversee all IT systems and coordinate with our Office Manager and vendors to upkeep our systems.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate degree or equivalent in the field of (one or more) Electronics, Communications, Audio Production, Media, Recording or Music
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in professional sound reinforcement, broadcast, audio/visual production or recording preferred.
- Ability to operate a medium/large-sized sound reinforcement system with sensitivity to both musical and ministry excellence.
- Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to troubleshoot networks, sound, video and GFX lighting systems and problem solve quickly.
- Ability to manage large projects working with the Lead pastors and Worship Leader.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills

- Strong leadership skills
Desired:
- Familiarity with computer software like ProPresenter is preferred.
- Familiarity with DANTE, Monarch Streaming, Ross Carbonite Switching Systems and Jands Vista DMX Lighting Systems.
- Musical background, with an added benefit of having experience in multi-track audio recording or professional audio systems installation.
- Ability to produce, direct and edit video productions for use within worship, education and advertising.
Primary Duties:
- Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the church, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, video and lighting systems, and communications equipment.
- Advises worship leaders, communications specialist, lighting, video, and sound designers on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the ministries and supervises the implementation of approved technical designs.
- Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management.
- Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff.
- Assists in recording for special events and video shoots.
- Develops video productions for use within worship and other media.
- Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
- Attends technical rehearsals, worship services, special events, to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the services.
- Makes recommendations to the church leadership regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
- Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting, video and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assists guest designers and arts with technical matters.
- Conducts one-on-one meetings with technical staff and volunteers every week.
· Work with Director of Worship to fill in for concerts and special events.
· Weekly Announcement and Table Talk (writing both, submitting to Cindy/Loida, videoing on Tuesday afternoon, editing and ready for publishing. Keep log of volunteers doing videos encouraging diversity.
· Weekly Handout – Add graphic, sermon title & scripture. Keep announcements on left side updated. Submit to Janice/Cindy/Loida for proofreading. Janice will print.
· Constant Contacts – Adding new members and/or guests; sending occasional letters or messages to the congregation.
· Constant Contacts – Weekly Email – same format every week, updating pastor’s letter, prayer requests, and attendance report.
· Taking pictures for directory including new members and uploading to Shelby.
· Taking pictures of special events – upload to Shared drive so Maria can have access to them.
· Update Live Streaming Videos on YouTube – Titles, add thumbnail and assign correct playlist every Monday morning.
· Create slides for advertisement of upcoming events. Update/delete Loop Slides as necessary.
· Create cards to advertise ministry events (Canvas).
· Other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
