What are the responsibilities and job description for the R&D Technician position at Lake Foods, LLC?

Job Summary:

The R&D technician is responsible for taking new, improved and optimized products from concept through successful commercialization by utilizing skills in formulation, product testing, and translation from bench to large scale production. The R&D technician is also responsible for creating customer samples per customized formulas.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

· Creates formulations for new products

· Reviews formulations for new and existing products

· Reviews work order and batching sheets for accuracy

· Subject matter expert on meat science and food technologies

· Technical expert for all production equipment in facility

· Collaborates with customers and cross-functional teams to develop innovative products

· Develops prototype products using pilot lab, manufacturing facilities, and equipment that meet project criteria

· Works with Quality and R&D Manager for new client development and onboarding processes

· Works with Quality and R&D Manager to develop and maintain finished product specifications

· Reviews and makes recommendations on ingredient deck labels, guaranteed analysis, and other packaging requirements for both new and existing products

· Transfers knowledge to production employees prior to implementation of new products

· Makes decisions regarding product re-dry, disposition, rework, or other production related events

· Provides technical support to Quality to resolve product related customer complaint issues by helping to identify root cause, developing technical solutions, and implementing changes

· Collaborates with Maintenance Manager for new equipment installation and makes recommendations for process changes that result from the installation

· Attends company meetings as required

· Other projects as needed

Skills & Attributes:

· Working experience with meat proteins within a manufacturing facility or in a university program or internship.

· Must have technical expertise in meat ingredient applications.

· Computer Skills (especially as it relates to equipment and laboratory software)

NetSuite experience a plus, but not required

· Attention to detail and ability to complete work thoroughly
