Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)
In cooperation with other instructors concerned, prepare or revise guides for courses offered in their division and submit to the Division Chair or appropriate Administrator for review.
Teach classes assigned by the Division Chair and approved by the Vice President following course outlines approved by the college.
In cooperation with other instructors concerned, prepare textbook recommendations and submit to the Division Chair for review.
File with the librarian a bibliography of library books to be used in each course.
Prepare for the annual budget requests for instructional equipment and materials including maps, books, audio-visual aids, and other supplies and submit these requests to the Division Chair for recommendation.
Prepare requests for the purchase of new library books and materials as needed and submit these requests to the Division Chair for review.
Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the Dean of Admission Services.
Attend division meetings called by the Division Chair and faculty meetings called by the administrative officers.
Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.
Cooperate in the promotion of extra curricular activities by accepting reasonable assignments and encouraging student participation.
Serve on such committees for the betterment of the college as may be established by the administration and faculty.
Assist in registration as needed.
Consider the general and special needs of the student. Assist students in meeting needs or problem solving when necessary, seek additional help from other college services when appropriate.
Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the college and inform the President in writing of any problem that might have a detrimental effect on the college.
Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
Notify the appropriate Administrator well in advance of absences.
Advise students assigned by student services.
Demonstrate commitment to the teaching/learning process.
Focus upon student recruitment, retention and success.
Use a variety of methods and teaching strategies that reflect the different learning styles and needs of students.
Show an understanding of the community college philosophy including its unique ties to the workforce and its district.
Work as a team member.
Participate in development activities and maintain current perspectives in class presentations.
Engage in activities aimed at promotion and development of educational programs, Humanities Division, and Lake Land College.
Other related duties as assigned.
Specific Functional Job Requirements
Education: Minimum of a Master's Degree in Communication Studies, Speech, or Speech Communication Experience: Teaching experience in Speech and/or Communication Studies preferred Knowledge: Curriculum development, community college philosophy and population, Illinois Articulation Initiative, and teaching a wide range of speech communication courses. Skills: Strong command of the English language, competency with multi-media technology, teaching ability Personal: Versatility, positive attitude, enthusiasm, self-initiative, Physical: Vision, Hearing, Ability to perform general responsibilities in the classroom, willing to travel within the college district and to attend state meetings
