Overwiew: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Classroom Teacher to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year. As a Classroom Teacher, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of young learners and creating a positive and engaging learning environment.

The Lake Oswego Learning Center: Combines the hybrid of a traditional learning classroom with self-directed home learning. We value the partnerships between educators, parents, and caregivers. Position Title: Grades 6-8 multi-age classroom teacher

POSITION SUMMARY
Learning times are from 9:00am-1:00pm Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Lake Oswego. The Teacher provides or supports instruction in all subject areas including math, reading, writing, spelling, geography, social studies, science, and social-emotional development. The teacher assesses students’ progress and reports to parents on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Commitment to tenets of progressive education including experiential learning, teaching to the whole child, and inquiry
  • Plan and facilitate effective, differentiated lessons
  • Co-plan with teaching colleagues. Work in a cooperative manner with teachers across the division, as well as parent volunteers
  • Foster a classroom environment where students feel comfortable to take risks, make mistakes, and be curious
  • Practice thoughtful, respectful, and effective classroom management techniques which support active learning and promote responsibility, self-management, and positive relationships
  • Work in partnership with students and their families
  • Maintain frequent contact with families including a monthly newsletter, emails, meetings, and informal conversations as well as communicating through Google classroom
  • Supervise students during recess and other non-class times
  • Develop and plan occasional field trips

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS
The teacher has daily contact with children, parents, teachers, and administrators. Some interactions include confidential information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Valid teaching certification/license - Master's degree welcome
  • Minimum 2 years classroom teaching experience working with children in an educational setting

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Ability to differentiate instruction
  • Familiar with different home-education models
  • Ability to create and implement a multi-grade curriculum using a progressive and constructivist pedagogy. Resulting in an overall lesson for the whole group, with more tailored assignments for the different specific ages
  • Knowledge, understanding, and successful demonstration of integrating curriculum and providing connectedness for learners
  • Familiarity with elementary education content/skill standards and developmental continua. As well as state standards
  • Effective classroom management skills, including restorative justice practices
  • Ability to create positive, professional relationships with students, parents, caregivers, and colleagues
  • Ability to work as a team member: The ability to problem-solve, compromise, collaborate, be flexible, and take direction when necessary
  • Ability to use technology to enhance instruction in developmentally appropriate ways
  • Clear communication skills, both verbally and in written form.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Mobility sufficient to move about the campus and assure the safety of children.
  • The ability to occasionally lift 25-45 pounds and to accomplish frequent bending, squatting, stooping and kneeling.
  • This model implements activity and movement. The ability to maintain light/moderate aerobic activity for 30 minutes is needed.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of childhood development principles and best practices in education - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written - Ability to effectively manage classroom dynamics and behavior management - Proficiency in curriculum development and lesson planning. Experience with homeschooling a plus.
