Job Purpose:
Responsible for assisting plant management to ensure compliance with safety requirements and environmental regulations. Helps ensure that environmental and safety objectives are achieved consistent with company policies. Understands the environmental aspects, impacts, objectives and targets of LVF and how these factors affect day-to-day operations. Maintains good housekeeping, safety and environmental standards. Ensures that employees understand their roles, responsibilities and accountabilities to the safety system.
Responsibilities:
· Assists plant management in the planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
· Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and other materials.
· Monitor operational processes and employee activities
· Keeping abreast of latest EHS trends, policies, regulations and best practices
· Assists with ensuring regular departmental safety audits are performed to detect existing or potential accident / health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
· Conducts monthly safety committee meetings.
· Participates in new hire orientation process.
· Helps with the maintenance of the list of hazardous materials and substances used in the plant.
· Ensures that governmental regulations with regard to labeling, safe handling, storage, first-aid, elimination /disposal of hazardous materials are known and are observed.
· Provides information, signs, posters, barriers and other materials to warn of potential /actual safety hazards.
· Presents weekly safety performance in operations staff meetings as well as team huddles and forums
· Participates in the investigation of accidents / injuries/ near misses
· Assists with the environmental/safety reports required by regulatory agencies.
· Provides assistance with maintaining the Environmental Management System certifications and permits.
· All other duties as deemed necessary.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven experience working in safety programs tools and methods
- Strong understanding of OSHA/DART rate reduction through awareness training and identifying leading indicators
- Strong working knowledge of FDA regulations, GMPs, SQF requirements and HACCP.
- Proven safety leadership in food manufacturing facilities required
- Strong ability to drive root cause analysis and establish corrective actions
- Strong multi tasker that drives for completion and follow through
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong record keeping/documentation skills (Accuracy, timely completion)
- Strong leadership and training abilities
- Working knowledge of Alchemy Systems a plus
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus
- Flexible hours to support off shift operations
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
