Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting the design staff for current and future projects. This position will be required to visit job sites and completing site analysis with Project Manager, designing projects incorporating the clients’ needs and wants and staying in budget, creating estimates, meeting with clients, contacting suppliers, reviewing zoning requirements as necessary, as well as having a good knowledge of plant specifics in this area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Visit job sites. Complete site analysis, if necessary, with Project Manager. Collect information from Project Manager and establish a budget.
Request surveys and retrieve measurements for areas proposed or whole site pending job. Develop property map/plan with home and buildings/permanent structures on site.
Acquire information regarding client wishes and needs from client or Project Manager (if not at first meeting).
Establish site special considerations, lakefront, wetland etc. Investigate via county or township maps, codes and regulations, setbacks, planting restrictions etc. Review for zoning, soil erosion, and DEQ. Establish special requirements such as silt fence or other. Establish permits needed, fulfill, and submit applications when applicable with Project Manager.
Design, incorporating clients' wishes and needs. Attend to existing or projected grading issues, drainage concerns, and introduce solutions. Introduce creative ideas or elements, encouraging innovative, and progressive designs for the area.
Speak with Project Manager and/or clients as necessary during the design process to answer questions or acquire further information.
Create estimates.
Seek out special items, plant materials, and costs.
Develop estimate, establishing labor hours, equipment and tools needed on jobs, and hours of equipment necessary. Include data entry of materials and quantities previously established. Create client note paragraphs, including descriptions and selected materials and colors (stone type, pavers etc.).
Create presentation packet, including proposals, photo packets (developed for individual job), and /or materials information and photos.
Present design and proposal to Project Manager, email or supply sales rep. with all needed for presentation.
Key Metrics:
Produce designs and estimates in the allotted time frame expected.
Design to successfully fulfill clients' expectations, producing a 'sellable' project.
Design and estimate within a sellable budget, maintaining a profitable margin within our set gross profit or higher.
Design and estimate hours at a realistic goal set for foreman and crews to achieve, based on feedback from Sales staff and Project Managers.
Education and Experience:
Proficient with e-mail programs, scanners, Microsoft Office products (Excel and Word), and overall work comfortably with technology.
Must be organized, meticulous, and have a customer service mindset. Be comfortable with deadlines and fast paced work environment. Must have a knowledge of perennials, shrubs, trees, and other landscape materials used in our industry and for our area.
High school diploma is required and 5 years experience working in the green industry. An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in related field of study is preferred.
