Required QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:
Two (2) years of post-secondary education in Construction Technology.
Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in a Construction related field.
Licensure or Certification Requirements

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education
  • AA/AS in Construction Technology or related.
  • Completion of coursework in Construction.

Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with LCC course materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Experience in assisting students at a community college is preferred.
  • Experience with concrete and concrete formwork.
  • Experience in residential construction from framing to finish, including stair and roof construction.
  • Forklift certified

Position Purpose:
Contributes to student academic success and completion by assisting students in their study of Construction Technology. Assists students to become successful and independent learners by using industry-current tooling, materials, and methods. Use lab/shop equipment to improve their critical thinking, problem-solving, study strategies and ability to make connections between Construction concepts and applications.
Essential Functions:
  • Assists students with all Construction classes from basic through advanced Construction by answering specific questions about Construction problems, assigned activities, and lab work. Work requires knowledge of related equipment, tools, curriculum, and instructional methods.
  • Supports students in Construction classes by explaining and modeling effective study strategies.
  • Provides answers in multiple ways to meet learner needs.
  • Shows enthusiasm for using Construction Technology.
  • Listen to and understand student questions, demonstrate the process, observe practice, show alternative methods, and tutor effectively.
  • Maintains a positive, student-centered learning environment by learning students' names and introducing students who may be interested in studying together.
  • Encourages a growth mindset towards learning Construction Technology.
  • Explains and models effective math study habits such as note-taking, use of course materials, time management and test preparation.
  • Provides students in Construction courses with additional resources and explanations to foster learner confidence and persistence and reduce anxiety.
  • Obtain, prepare and maintain materials, equipment and supplies for student labs and classes and clean up and organize lab supplies.
  • Promotes student use of the online curriculum.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suites.
  • Assist with community outreach events.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, training, and advisory committee meetings.
  • Work Safely and within guidelines established by OSHA, the college and the division.
  • Supervise Construction students in the use of equipment and materials; obtain, prepare and maintain supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Division Dean. Work may be led or coordinated by the lead worker. Work is performed independently using specialized experience and training. Work is reviewed for the quality of assistance provided.

This position may have the responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities and train student assistants and hourly employees.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
The working conditions are in a fully operational Construction shop setting with multiple hazards such as machinery, tools, ladders, trip hazards, etc. Lift and transport up to fifty (50) lbs; use a computer for one (1) or more hours per day; Ability to work on a concrete floor for five (5) or more hours/day.

Learned physical skill is required for tooling and operation of other construction equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and sufficient hearing and well-developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students. May move from lab station to lab station to assist students. Must be able to demonstrate solutions using paper and pencil and whiteboard.

Work is performed in a highly active, open lab setting with exposure to health or safety hazards. The area environment includes multiple background conversations and frequent interruptions.
