Teacher Pathways Program Specialist

Classification: Exempt, Licensed

Salary: Placement according to current salary schedule

Calendar: 207 days annually

Duration: Permanent/Grant Funded

JOB GOAL: This position is responsible for supporting the Oregon Education Advancement Council’s state-wide effort to diversify Oregon’s educator workforce. The position is assigned to Lane County supporting the collaborative efforts of districts and higher education institutions.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Lead and coordinate Lane region Teacher Pathway initiative.
     A. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships between districts and institutions of higher education to support diversification of licensed employee workforce in the region.
  1. Assist in establishment of agreements with appropriate institutions/agencies support and expand Teacher Pathways options and resources.
  2. Prepare Teacher Pathways materials for recruitment purposes.
  3. Facilitate the establishment of procedures for Teacher Pathways program implementation across higher education institutions and participating districts.
  B. Assists districts in establishing recruitment and hiring process that supports the identification of new educators with a diversity of race, culture, language, gender and age.
  C. Develops and maintains content promoting the Teacher Pathways initiative for use in print, electronic and digital formats.
  D. Recruit and support bilingual or bicultural students and staff in completing a teacher training program and obtaining a teaching license.
  1. Network with local high schools and communities of color to develop awareness and interest in the Teacher Pathways initiative.
  2. Conduct follow up and outreach to individual students and staff on specific Teacher Pathways options.
  3. Assists Teacher Pathways participants in accessing academic, financial, and social supports.
  4. Promotes sustainable progress in becoming a licensed educator by recommending supports for Pathways participants and assist with removal of barriers.
  5. Facilitate Teacher Pathways participants in accessing resources for goal-setting, understanding TSPC licensure, navigating community college to university transfer, entry into a teacher preparation program, accessing financial aid, and time management.
  6. Assist Teacher Pathways participants in accessing supports to prepare for employment through job search support, resume and cover letter development, and interview skills.
2. Collect and analyze implementation data for progress reports; prepare and disseminate progress reports and updates within the region.
  1. Develops appropriate tracking tools documenting detailed and accurate Teacher Pathways participant records and collects statistical data and reports.
  2. Conducts exit surveys and interviews to improve the Teacher Pathways methods for recruitment and retention.
3. Assist with grant budget; review reimbursement requests against program criteria for approval.
4. Maintain knowledge and skills on current research, effective practices and trends related to assignment
5. Work collaboratively with districts and ESD staff to research and pursue grant and other funding opportunities in support of Teacher Pathways initiative program.
6. Participate in regional, state, community and local meetings related to assignment.
7. Perform other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 
  1. Bachelors degree in education, social services or related field. Masters Degree preferred.
  2. Valid TSPC licensed required. Background in counseling or advising preferred.
  3. A minimum of three years of experience successfully working with bilingual and/or bicultural high school students, and running a program or initiative; Experience serving as a mentor preferred.
  4. Experience in application of equity lens in decision-making and supporting teams in changing or adapting systems to eliminate barriers experienced by underserved and marginalized student groups.

  1. Demonstrated ability to facilitate various stakeholder groups, solicit input, synthesize and summarize information.
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with students and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  3. Proficient in use of technology as a tool in daily work.
  4. Ability to read, write and speak in English required; Ability to read, write and speak in Spanish preferred.
  5. Valid Oregon Driver’s License or ability to obtain on upon hire.

School Improvement Services focuses on improving achievement for all students within our community, through providing high quality professional development, technical assistance, and instructional-based support for educators in 16 Lane County School Districts.  Services are provided to educators at all levels from kindergarten through graduation, in all core content areas, and can be designed to meet the collective needs of all districts or differentiated to meet individual district needs.

School Improvement Services collaborates with local districts, higher education and other agencies to provide leadership and support in pursuing and administering grants for the benefit of Lane County’s schools and students.
