Raw Material Planner II - API & Excipients

 
Job Summary

Main point of contact for all third party API and Excipient vendors for commercial products within the Lannett multi-site organization. Evaluate and analyze production requirements at multiple site locations and translate those needs to API & Excipient raw material planning.  Use forecast numbers and supplier/component knowledge to be able to determine appropriate component safety stock levels. Under minimal supervision, manage vendor material or delivery problems internally and externally with the supplier. Previous raw material planning and vendor knowledge and capable of performing cost reduction strategies and manage inventory with minimal supervision.

Manages day-to-day process independently with little direction and, when necessary, supports training and development of other material planners. Responsible for ensuring production materials arrive on time to support production, and responsible for annual spend of ~$80M.  This position has no direct reports and no P&L or budget responsibility. 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and analyze production requirements for all API and Excipient raw materials that support the production of all commercial products at two locations (Seymour, IN and Carmel, NY) – translating those needs to API and Excipient material planning.
  • Creates new Purchase Orders at order points and manage any open Purchase Orders to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Monitors and manages inventory levels to support MRP/SAP planning
  • Interact with vendors to resolve issues (i.e. supply issues, quality issues, documentation issues, invoicing issues, etc.).
  • Communicates any material or delivery problems to the cross-functional teams and management (expediting material as needed).
  • Issues vendor forecasts as needed.
  • Interacts with the Purchasing & Project Management teams in managing the transition of New Product launches raw material planning to commercial.
  • Evaluates sales demand and supplier/component knowledge to determine appropriate component safety stock levels.
  • Evaluates lead times and minimum order quantities (MOQ’s) to ensure they align with finished good sales demand.

  • Leads additional activity to avoid obsolescence such as, but not limited to: requesting date extensions from vendor, interact with scheduling to improve production timelines, interact with internal Sales to determine if there is market opportunities, etc.
  • Manages inventory transitions due to revisions or changes to materials, site location, etc. and ensure reduced obsolescence under minimal supervision.
  • Evaluates and analyze inventory tracking report and trend analysis report to identify gaps in supply or potential O/E issues.
  • Evaluates lead times and minimum order quantities (MOQ’s) to understand impact to space allocation in warehouse (support reduction in both where applicable).
  • Interact with cross-functional teams on potential consolidation of materials to increase efficiency of MRP and inventory flow.
  • Works on various planning initiatives and strategies (i.e. supplier scorecard, training documents, etc.).
  • Lead vendor improvement initiatives to drive improved performance in lead times, delivery, and cost.
  • Upon Mgmt. request, support standardization activities within your job (policies/user instruction, etc.)
  • Supports other cross-functional improvement activities to assure departmental and company goals are achieved.

 Education/Qualifications:

  • A Business or Technical Bachelor’s degree (i.e. Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Chemistry, Packaging Science, Business Administration, Industrial Management, Industrial Engineering, etc.) required
  • 3+ years of raw material or production planning experience
  • Prior pharmaceutical experience desirable.
  • High degree of interpersonal skills is a primary requirement, as the successful candidate must communicate effectively with all management levels both internally and externally.
  • Prior experience with training and developing team members
  • Previous experience to lead teams, effect teamwork and manage change in dynamic environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and to switch direction comfortably. Understands current business conditions and applies strategic thinking to structure key supplier relationships. 
  • Previous experience with project management and team building skills.
  • Must be able to logically convince and persuade others in order to accomplish the job objectives and negotiate effectively.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Specialized skills required are (but not limited to) knowledge of economics, negotiations, finance, materials requirements planning, computer operations, inventory control techniques, value analysis, forecasting, cost/price analysis, all internal systems impacting purchasing, construction and use of standard costs, production processes (internal and at suppliers), accounting, and short and long range planning.
  • 1~2 years of SAP or MRP Systems for Planning/Procurement activities (i.e. requisition systems, inventory purchases, Supplier/Vendor maintenance, Supplier/Vendor History)
  • Microsoft Word to enable individual to generate routine correspondence, memos, and reports.
  • Microsoft Excel – able to understand and perform complex Excel functions & tools.
  • Microsoft Outlook to enable individual to: send and receive messages; schedule meetings; maintain calendar; maintain contacts phone numbers and addresses.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint to enable individual to create, save and amend presentations.
  • Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Traditional office environment, with frequent walking to other areas of the facility, including production areas, loading docks, and warehouse.
  • Must wear safety glasses and other protective items as required.
