Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Grant Writer reports to the Director of Grants and is responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating, implementing, and securing external grant and foundation funding to supplement operational expenditures of Laredo College and the capital needs of the institution. Grant writer identifies grant opportunities, writes and polishes complete grant proposals, and submit proposals for review. The Grant Writer also monitors compliance with grantor stipulations and regulations.Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare grant applications for submittal and assist in the preparation of quarterly or annual reports as required by granting agencies and college administration.
- Write or assist management with grant applications for instruction and non-instructional areas.
- Work with the IA Division to produce grant applications, collaborative proposals and other appropriate resource material that result in funding for Laredo College.
- Research grant and funding resource opportunities in multiple agencies that benefit the College.; Refer such resources to appropriate departments and track through submission, award and/or reporting of grants.
- Assist college personal with grant guidance and logistics in a timely manner prior to submission.
- Assist in monitoring of grants mid-year and annual reports.
- Assist in developing department’s annual budget.
- Remain up to date in Professional Development trainings regular and funding resources.
- Remain up to date in grant regulations, standards and guidelines for national and state grants and foundations.
- Collaborate on grant projects that support the College Mission and Strategic Plan.
- Conduct departmental meetings to identify and prioritize needs and resources for grant applications on a monthly basis.

- Edits draft grant applications for accuracy, completeness, and clarity; Submits applications in accordance with funding source requirements.
- Develop and execute grant and foundation plans that result in large grant applications, research and/or policy analysis.
- Participates in grant award events for the College.
- Serves on a variety of internal committees and/or task forces providing oversight to the IA and/or Development departments. Represents the College in outreach functions and professional groups and organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Grants and/or VP of Institutional Advancement.

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Business or related area with three or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to five years of work experience in the planning/writing and reporting of grant proposals for local, state, federal, and private grants.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Business and related field experience in grant writing and/or development in higher education for Hispanic Serving Institutions
- Experience in higher education grant preparation and electronic submittal.
- Knowledge in grant writing and reporting in an educational institution, nonprofit organization or charity on grant funding including grant finance/budget.
- High level of effective oral/written communication and editing skills
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Effective organization and planning skills.
- Ability to attend to detail and ensure accuracy of data.
- Ability to take initiative and utilize innovative techniques and ingenuity in preparing grant applications.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with departments of the College and Community.
- Knowledge of grant programs available to colleges and other partners.
- Ability to use personal computer and various word processing and spreadsheet software programs which includes MS Office Suite, Zoom, TEAMS, One Drive, Google Drive and the internet to promote efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of funding resources, laws and standards of national, state and foundation grants.
