PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary role of the Post Secondary Education Coordinator is to oversee the Scholarship program by utilizing a Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity (DEI) lens and Restorative Practices lens in developing a sense of community among youth participants in scholarship cohorts by collaborating with internal Larkin Street Youth Services and external agencies in monthly college related programming, advising, and curriculum development including: teaching college readiness, Math, English, matriculation, retention, graduation, educational plans, event coordination, and support tutors/mentors in classroom lessons and development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the planning, recruitment, evaluation, and execution of the scholarship program
  • Conduct individual advising session with each scholarship recipient once a month
  • Plan, evaluate, and execute monthly events gear toward scholarship recipients both virtually and in-person by facilitating college related workshops
  • Maintain partnerships with postsecondary institutions
  • Support Larkin Street staff in integrating college activities into existing programs
  • Implement peer tutoring program, including hiring peer tutors, managing connection and follow through of tutees and tutors
  • Act as a point of contact with up to 50 youth receiving scholarships to review goals and current status
  • Advise general Larkin Street youth inquiring about college
  • Develop education goals and case/education plans in areas such as budgeting, housing, substance use, transportation, and time management
  • Conduct intensive advocacy and referrals within Larkin Street and externally
  • Coordinate between case managers and clients to clarify expectations, requirements, availability of incentives, etc.
  • Develop and facilitate student leadership in planning cohort-based activities during school breaks and between semesters. Foster student leadership, secure required resources and oversee smooth execution of planned events
  • Participate in Larkin Street Youth Services DEI efforts

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and disseminate information on academic requirements, employment opportunities, and

other pertinent services weekly to college program

  • Timely completion of all services forms
  • Responsible for supporting program services within the milieu. For example, crisis intervention

or helping to maintain the safety of the program

  • Responsible for contributing towards the care and welfare of staff and to the clients we serve.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in social work, education, or related field
  • Knowledge of two and four year postsecondary institutions (including Career and Technical Education programs)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Ability to use experience and judgment to manage goals and projects
  • Ability to be a self-starter with follow-through skills.
  • Working knowledge of issues facing homeless youth
