As the Safety Manager for construction projects at a federal facility, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all personnel involved in construction activities.
This role is crucial in maintaining compliance with federal safety regulations and fostering a culture of safety excellence throughout all phases of construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Safety Compliance : Monitor and enforce compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as agency-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Risk Assessment : Conduct thorough risk assessments of construction activities and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Safety Inspections : Perform regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, unsafe practices, and conditions requiring corrective action.
- Safety Training : Develop and deliver safety training programs for construction personnel, ensuring awareness of hazards and safe work practices.
- Incident Investigation : Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and safety-related incidents, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures.
- Emergency Preparedness : Develop and maintain emergency response plans specific to construction activities, coordinating drills and ensuring readiness.
- Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection reports, training records, incident reports, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Safety Culture Promotion : Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability among all project team members, encouraging proactive safety behaviors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred.
- Extensive experience (typically 5 years) in construction safety management, preferably in a federal or similarly regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EM 385-1-1) and their application to construction projects.
- Proven ability to effectively manage safety programs, conduct risk assessments, and implement safety controls.
