Job Posting for Senior Commercial Underwriter / Credit Analyst at Launch Credit Union
Position Summary
This position allows for an optional hybrid work arrangement which includes a combination of both in-office and remote work on a weekly basis. To be eligible for the program, employees must complete a minimum of 90 days of continuous employment, be in good standing, and agree to the terms of a Work from Home Agreement prior to being eligible for hybrid work. The employee’s request is subject to supervisor approval. Working locations and hybrid schedules may be altered at management discretion.
Responsible for supporting the credit union’s commercial lending efforts by serving in a crucial role and leveraging the incumbent’s expertise in the loan approval process. The Senior Commercial Loan Underwriter/Credit Analyst is responsible for analyzing mid-size to large, complex commercial loan packets and determining the overall credit worthiness and risk rating associated with them. Incumbent prepares loan summaries documenting findings and recommends terms, conditions, and loan structure according to credit union standards, policies, and regulations. Performs annual reviews of loans considering borrower’s operating performance, financial condition, collateral, market trends and other pertinent information to proactively identify issues and recommend remedial action, if necessary. Keeps informed of financial and market trends impacting the portfolio. Reports findings and recommendations to management.
Primary Responsibilities
Performs credit reviews confirming or negating information received from third party underwriting service. Analyzes prospective borrower’s financial condition, (reviews all pertinent credit and financial information, including but not limited to financial statements, tax returns, business projections, due diligence reports, credit bureaus) appraisals, valuations, market, business projections, and industry information to identify key risks and credit quality.
Prepares timely, concise, and accurate credit recommendations, with limited supervision or revision. Recommends loan structure to sufficiently mitigate risk. Assigns/validates risk rating based on documented facts and/or sound judgement.
Approves loans within authority limits. Prepares loan approval documents for renewals, extensions and modifications.
Provides a written summary analysis on each loan packet for management and loan committee review. Attends loan committee meetings.
Assists with monitoring the ongoing credit risk of existing commercial loan portfolio through continuous credit monitoring (CCM) activities enabling the timely identification of emerging credit risk.
Evaluates/conducts annual reviews of loans to corroborate borrower’s financial health, cash flow adequacy and creditworthiness. Recommends downgrades and mitigants to risk factors. Determines if covenants are being met and informs management of issues. Requests documents as needed from members to perform a comprehensive review.
Develops a thorough understanding of the creditworthiness of the Borrower and Guarantor. Explains significant changes over time. Creates a summary documenting the status of the loan and any recommendations as needed. Determines new risk rating.
Regularly exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of essential job
Ensures adherence to commercial loan policy and evaluating any risk associated with non-compliance. Ensures exceptions are properly notated and tracked.
Other Responsibilities
Participate in credit union examinations.
Completes credit union training on time.
Develops, maintains, and demonstrates a working knowledge of credit union loan standards, policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal government rules. Adheres to policies that govern the position.
Provides training, support and mentoring to other loan staff.
Follows all Launch Credit Union policies and procedures.
Participates in projects that impact lending.
Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a 4-year accredited college or university in Business, Finance, Accounting, or similar study, or equivalent related experience and/or training. Work related experience and training should consist of credit analysis, financial analysis, lending, or similar experience.
Minimum of five years of commercial underwriting/credit analysis experience or relevant lending experience for a financial institution required.
Advanced credit and credit quality skills including accounting, financial statement spreading, and cash flow analysis experience.
Advanced knowledge of credit policies, procedures, practices, and documentation.
Consistently demonstrates a courteous, tactful, and professional approach when dealing with vendors, members, and internal staff in accordance with established customer service standards and demonstrates concern and respect for others in all interactions, inspiring trust and confidence.
Must be organized and have the ability multitask while paying close attention to detail. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work within a team environment. Consistently demonstrates self-motivation and independent problem-solving skills, requiring only minimal direct supervision, to maximize individual productivity and efficiency.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret appraisals, environmental reports, general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, correspondence, and procedures, speak clearly to customers and employees.
