Job Description
We have an opening for a Senior Level Travel Accounting Team Lead to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment. You will be responsible for managing the Travel Accounting operation, including the management and preparation, analysis, maintenance, reconciliation, and review of this complex institutional travel accounting function. This position is in the Payroll, Travel Accounting and Accounts Payable (TAPS) Division of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) Organization.
In this role you will:
- Serve as a key member of the Travel and Accounts Payable Department, leading a work team and assisting the group leader with leadership, oversight and guidance to the groups exempt and non-exempt personnel.
- Interpret and apply Laboratory, LLNS and DOE/NNSA policies, procedures and processes to ensure work is in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform complex balance sheet account analysis and reconciliation. Prepare journal entries, and analyze and interpret accounting data and analyze and verification of financial reports and schedules.
- Provide audit support to Internal Audit for Travel and Accounts Payable. Including the performance of highly complex risk analysis, data analytics, research, and implementation of corrective actions related to operational issues and provide input and perform self-assessments.
- Prepare and deliver briefings, documentation and reports to all levels of management, both internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Coordinate and resolve complex issues with customers and as a subject-matter expert, mentor staff on LLNL financial processes, policies and procedures, financial systems, and internal controls. Foster effective relationships with customers and colleagues, participate in directorate working groups.
- Review, analyze and recommend changes or modifications to LLNL’s accounting and travel reimbursement systems, policies, processes and procedures and independently analyze and research system functionality, testing, reporting and data discrepancies to ensure integrity in financial reporting.

Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent combination of related experience, education, and training in the finance/accounting/tax field.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of accounting theory, policies and procedures, CAS, GAAP.
- Advanced communication skills both written and verbal to effectively prepare detailed financial memos, briefings, documentation, and reports as well as advanced organizational skills to independently establish priorities and to execute complex business and financial assignments meeting critical time-urgent deadlines.
- Extensive experience applying expert analytical skills to independently research, interpret, analyze, compile and present highly complex financial data and information. Including the interpretation of financial policies and procedures.
- Advanced experience applying problem-solving and analytical skills to solve complex issues requiring mature judgment, discretion and tact, and ability to successfully negotiate desirable outcomes, affect policy changes, and experience making effective and timely decisions.
- Extensive effective experience leading, managing, or supervising a diverse group of professionals and non-exempt staff.
- Expertise using interpersonal skills to effectively explain, negotiate, persuade and build consensus among diverse stakeholders and the ability to establish effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, both internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Advanced use of computers and a thorough working knowledge of associated software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of LLNL and/or DOE policies, procedures, requirements.
- Knowledge of LLNL Travel Policy and Federal Travel Regulations (FTR).
- Knowledge of LLNL business applications and processes such as ePay, Cliqbook, TIME, LTRAIN, and ORACLE.
