REPORTS TO: Applications Development Manager
LOCATION: Technology Services, Seeley G. Mudd Library
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Provide technical expertise and development services in support of the college Web presence. Work closely with members the Application Development team including other Web Developers, the university Web Content and New Media Coordinator, and other primary web content managers to help maintain and extend features of the core Web site and associated web properties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and/or implement web applications and web scripting components using a variety of languages, technologies, and techniques.
- Develop, maintain, and support custom modules and themes for the university’s Drupal-based content management system, WordPress-based sites, and other web-based products and frameworks.
- Consult with and advise campus web content creators to support their projects and requirements.
- Provide second-level technical support and customer service for university web applications and primary website.
- Collaborate with fellow members of the Application Support team within Technology Services to ensure that web applications integrate appropriately with other business process applications and databases operated by the university.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Work closely with staff members in Technology Services, content creators and designers in the Communications department, and web content maintainers across campus including faculty, staff, and students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Extensive web development knowledge using PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Awareness of web security best-practices and attack vectors along with experience developing secure, well-built systems.
- Knowledge of Drupal and WordPress content management systems.
- Knowledge of computer user support issues and ability to convey computing concepts effectively to non-technical users.
- Ability to define project goals and work independently to complete projects while adhering to the established schedule.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other staff members within Technology Services and broadly within the college administration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Possess a two-year degree or greater in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 2-3 years of advanced web development experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems and Apache-based web servers preferred.
- Experience using, configuring, and optimizing relational database systems preferred.
