Qualifications of a MA: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Interact professionally and positively with all patients, colleagues, managers and executive team Exhibit a high degree of maturity, integrity, loyalty, creativity, and strict confidentiality with HIPPA compliance in all daily tasks. One year of medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting Excellent verbal and written communication skills Current Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited program Preferred Skills of an MA: Clinical administration skills Electronic Medical Records Experience Major Duties and Responsibilities of an MA: Maintains the general appearance and cleanliness of exam rooms Maintains timely flow of patients Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Takes and documents patient histories including medications and drug allergies, height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse Assists physicians with procedures and collection of specimens Performs post void residual urine test (PVR) exams, draws blood, collects urine samples, performs office lab procedures and documents results, and coordinates all specimen requests and reports to and from various laboratories. Pull charts for lab reports to be reviewed and signed by physicians Cleans and sterilizes equipment. Performs quality control measures and documentation. Prepares and replenishes supplies. Maintains inventory Instructs patient regarding preparation for tests. Provides information and pamphlets Requests and assists with formal consent when required Receives and organizes the handling of medication samples, checks expiration dates and disposes outdated medications accordingly Disposes of contaminated and disposable items Mails normal PSA result and annual exam reminder cards Attends required meetings Participates in professional development activities Maintains strictest confidentiality Phone Triage: Answers phones, forward call to appropriate physician Schedule appointments Call results to patient after physician reviews them. Screen patient calls for physicians. Take care of emergent calls. Take careful note of others and forwarding information to the physician Call in medication prescriptions to patient pharmacy as directed by physician. Give limited medical advice over the phone and documenting the call and the advice given Critical Skills and Abilities of an MA: Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with clinical staff Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
