What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Intern position at League of Minnesota Cities (LMNC)?
Offers hands-on learning experience while assisting the building services operation. This intern will be exposed to various administrative responsibilities and training aspects of the operations/facilities in a business environment. This position exists to help entry level applicants gain experience to break through the field with the intent to serve our member cities in the future.

- Assists Facilities Coordinator and Facilities Engineer with large scale projects (e.g., parking lot reconstruction design and building remodel of select floors).
- Data entry and data analysis utilizing Excel and other Microsoft products.
- Coordinates and tracks work orders.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates a commitment to learning about facilities operation and management.
- Sets priorities and organizes work effective with help from supervisor as needed.
- Creatively solves problems and communicates clearly.
- Deals effectively and courteously with staff, League members, tenants, contractors, and the public in a way that portrays a positive image of the League of Minnesota Cities.
- Meets or exceeds League Empowerment and Performance Program (LEAPP) results/timelines and other department performance measures.
- Promotes diversity and inclusion objectives, including race equity objectives, defined by the League and continually examines own performance to eliminate implicit bias in carrying out duties and interacting with the public, coworkers, and members.
- Basic knowledge of building system functions.
- Interest in career growth in facilities maintenance, building systems or mechanical/electrical field.
- Ability to operate power tools and small engines to perform minor carpentry and hardware repairs with oversight by the facilities coordinator or facilities engineer.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Windows based systems, primarily Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Must be able to perform duties independently.
- Ability to multi-task and handle detailed assignments.
- Ability to work up to 15-20 hours per week for approximately 6 months.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in property maintenance field.
- Experience with public sector, preferably at municipal level.
- Ability to climb ladders and work with arms extended overhead.
- Ability to stand, walk, balance, reach, bend, twist, squat, and crouch.
- Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to push and pull carts up to 100 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to work in hot or cold environments while mowing or shoveling.
