Locations- Leavitt Funeral Homes in Parkersburg and Belpre

Position Description

Purpose/Summary- Preneed Counselor will be responsible for working at the Leavitt Funeral Home in both our Parkersburg, WV and Belpre, OH locations. This person will be dedicated to working with current, future and potential families to educate, plan and fund their burial and cremation plans. In doing so, this position requires the highest level of customer service and hospitality to families and the community both in person, events and on the phone.

The job description covers four key areas of your position; Core Competencies, Job Responsibilities, Job Requirements and Physical Requirements.

1) Core Competencies – The Preneed Counselor (Advanced Funeral Planner) should excel

3) Job Responsibilities: Business Development

Through the use of the five-step sales process, develop and cultivate relationship to advance the sales of the funeral home pre-planning products. The five-step sales process includes lead generation (both company and self), appointment setting, presentation, closing the sale, and keeping the sale.

Schedule: Must be available both day and evening hours and be flexible to meet with families during those hours. Will be required to be “on call” every other weekend, alternating with other preneed staff. Office Hours will start at 9:00 am, Mon-Fri. One day each week will be scheduled to physically be present at our Belpre location.

During the first 90 days:

1. Complete all state licensing requirements as soon as possible

2. Have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance that meets company requirements

3. Understand the terminology and processes involved in funeral arrangements

4. Learns the features and benefits of the product offerings – including funeral home service, merchandise, and funding products

5. Understands and can complete the product and funding documents accurately

6. Understand the funeral home and pre-need rules and regulations

7. Successfully learns and delivers the consumer presentation

8. Learns and begins to document the five-step sales process

9. Maintains a positive attitude

10. Follows funeral home professional dress code

11. Attends all sales meetings and training sessions

12. Coordinates communication with at-need families as specified by management

13. Effectively works with a lead management system as required by management

14. Learn and effectively work with funeral home aftercare marketing program

During the first 120 days:

1. Documents the “five step sales process” weekly

2. Effectively sets predetermined number of appointments through working self-generated leads or any other lead source the funeral home has available

3. Effectively gives group presentations

4. Effectively closes prefunded prearrangements

5. Obtains referrals

6. Keeps a predetermined number of sales referred to as “persistency” in the insurance business

7. Works independently to achieve sales goals

8. Works a flexible schedule to meet customer needs if necessary to obtain appointments

and sales. This may include evenings and weekends.

9. Other duties as assigned

4) Job Requirements

• Must have a college degree with 1-2 years funeral industry related experience or 5 years sales experience in lieu of education.
• Must have a driver’s license
• Must be a Licensed Insurance Agent in West Virginia and Ohio, or able to obtain reciprocal license within first 90days of employment for both states.
• Sales Experience
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Ability to speak effectively with customers and employees of the company.
• Must be skilled/proficient in written and oral communications, and personal computer
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, insurance documents, state laws and regulations.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule as required for working with families.

4) Physical Requirements

• Ability to Drive an automobile
• Ability to operate a computer keyboard by whatever means.
• Ability to communicate by means of the spoken word both face to face and over the telephone.
• Ability to exert up enough force frequently in an office environment.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
