What are the responsibilities and job description for the BAS Engineer position at Lee Company?
Summary of Job:
BAS Engineer is responsible for the documentation of control system applications, product and component selection, and software programming. This position is also responsible for developing detailed sequences of operation for all types of HVAC and process control systems. BAS Engineer is involved in all aspects of the BAS controls concept development, estimating, procurement, and installation process by supporting the BAS team members as required to ensure the successful completion of BAS installations.Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a program accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.,)
- Fundamental knowledge of applied sciences (Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow, Physics, etc.)
- A working familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and ability to be trained in use of the Company-specific applications and software
- Experience with HVAC I Plumbing industry preferred with good understanding of construction practices
- Experience with Computer Aided Design and Associated Software (AutoCAD, Revit,
- Knowledge of electrical circuits
- Experience with HVAC Load and Energy Modeling Software (Trace 700, Carrier H.A.P., Equest, etc.) preferred
- Experience with Building Code Interpretation and Application preferred
- A working vocabulary of the building/construction trades preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- BAS Protocols - Develops an understanding of BAS communication protocols
- Electrical Knowledge – Has an in depth understanding of Ohm’s Law and electrical circuits
- Blueprints - Understands the basic concepts of blueprints and schematic drawings
- HVAC Systems – Develops basic understanding of HVAC systems and components
- Hydronic Systems – Understands the basics of chilled, condenser and hot water systems
- Air Side Systems – Understands the basics of variable and constant volume air flows.
- Certifications – Possesses Siemens, Honeywell and/or Trane BAS certifications
- Variable Frequency Drives – Understands concepts of VFD’s and the ability to perform operational function checks
- Test and Balance – Understands the basic concepts of Test and Balance procedures
- Computer Skills – Possesses basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office products
- Valves & Actuators – Ability to identify, size and create valve and actuator schedules
- Building Automation Systems – Ability to download and adjust BAS programs. Perform functional checks of mechanical systems
- IT Networks – Understand the basics of IT networks to include networking and configuration of systems
- Design Software – Working knowledge of AutoCad
- Control Signals – Understands types and capabilities of differing control signals
- Analytical – Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data

- Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Windows operating system as well as BAS engineering software. Individual must also have a basic understanding of IT networks and protocols.
