Manage the day to day operations of construction projects including mechanical and plumbing (M&P) projects with budged amounts over $400,000 from conception through the completion of the warranty period and responsible for the successful coordination and execution of all aspects of the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  (include but are not limited to)

  • Leads staff including Assistant Project Managers and Project Superintendents
  • Communicates company policies and objectives
  • Mentors, trains and assigns specified work
  • Gives work direction and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work
  • Evaluates employee performance using objective, measurable criteria, and provide on-going effective coaching and counseling to employees to achieve optimum performance (corrective counseling may include disciplinary action up to and including termination)
  • Assists employees in setting goals and in working  towards achieving identified goals
  • Provides guidance to staff in resolving difficult issues
  • Develops project plan to outline time frame, budget, processes, staffing requirements, and resources needed for various phases of each project
  • Prepares and is accountable for financial projections; sets and meets budget on each job managed; budgets are used to project the financial outlook of department and position is accountable for meeting budgets and projections; projections are reviewed monthly by management
  • Establishes work plan and staffing plan for each project phase and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel; tracks labor hours
  • Determines equipment and materials needed and places orders ensuring delivery dates meet project timeline; tracks material cost
  • Manages project schedule to direct and coordinate activities of project personnel and ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
  • Manages needed changes during project cycle; reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required
  • Provides needed support to project superintendents
  • Prepares project documentation for management, client, or others
  • Confers with project personnel and provides technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Ensure company safety policies and practices are adhered to and conducts safety meetings with staff
  • Must be able to handle stress and job demands.
  • Must be able to cooperatively work with others.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Business or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5 or more years construction project management experience required with specific Plumbing and Mechanical management experience preferred
  • Good general knowledge of the construction process
  • Experience with and awareness of contract process, terms, legal issues, scope, etc.
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Products, Solomon, and Microsoft Project
  • Experience with and knowledge of blue prints and specifications related to mechanical construction
  • Trade licenses are a plus

Physical Demands/Working Conditions: 

The physical activities described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and expectations.

Individuals may need to ride or drive in a vehicle for 2 or more hours at a time depending on position. Individuals working at an outside job site may be exposed to varying temperatures including very hot (above 90 degrees F) or very cold (below 32 degrees F) and all weather conditions. Individuals may be exposed to: cramped work spaces, contaminants, extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions, exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Performing this job requires frequent use of hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Must be able to sit, talk, hear, and stand frequently throughout the day. Must be able to climb, reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl frequently. The position occasionally may require lifting heavy objects (up to 75 pounds) and performing strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Individuals may occasionally be exposed to hazardous conditions, high places and /or hazardous equipment.  May work with or around chemicals that require knowledge of a safety data sheet.

Individuals in an office-based position will encounter ambient room temperatures, fluorescent lighting, and will be expected to operate traditional office equipment as found in any typical office environment. Individuals may need to sit at a desk or table for long periods of time. An office worker may also be expected to spend long hours in front of a computer screen. A person in this position can be expected to reach over shoulder heights; crouch or stoop below the waist; experience repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds depending on the position.
