What are the responsibilities and job description for the Government and Politics Reporter position at Lee Enterprises?
Are you a politics junkie who just happens to be a talented reporter? Here at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, a Lee Enterprises company, we have a great job for you. We’re looking for a reporter to cover politics and state government in Arizona, one of the key battleground states in the coming election year, which promises to be absolutely, well, nuts.
This ambitious beat will focus on Arizona’s U.S. Senate race, key southern Arizona congressional races, and the Legislature, with an emphasis on enterprise rather than quick turns. It’s an opportunity to make a huge impact in this metro area of more than a million people. Can you write about issues, politics and people without resorting to cliché?
We’re going to take some convincing that you’re the perfect person for this challenge. We’ll need to see great clips and a letter that demonstrates your ability to take command of this contentious, noisy beat and produce insightful stories that will help our readers understand the forces at play in Election 2024.
This is a position requiring some previous reporting experience. We offer competitive salary and benefits, great editors and colleagues, and one of the country’s best places to live. This reporter can live either in Tucson or Phoenix. Much of the work is expected to be done outside of the Star’s offices but you’ll be expected to spend some time in our newsroom as well.
