Reporter – Juneau County Star Times
Juneau County Star Times, based in Mauston, Wisconsin, is seeking a full-time general assignment reporter with a digital first focus to cover news beats in Juneau County. Duties include writing news
and feature stories, photography, video production, interviewing sources and researching data for news and feature articles, developing sources and recognizing newsworthiness of events. The reporter will create content for the newspapers’ website, wiscnews.com as well as print products. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Writes news and feature stories plus regular longer stories as assigned. Produces
content for the web including video, audio and photo galleries.
Utilizes Facebook and Twitter and other social media systems, to spread news
content.
Takes photos to accompany stories or to run as stand-alone features, as
assigned.
Interviews sources and researches data for news and feature articles.
Develops sources and recognizes newsworthiness of events in the area assigned.
Enters stories and photos in the TCMS for placement in print and on web.
Minimum Requirements:
Writing experience from full-time work on newspapers, internships, freelance
assignments, publications other than newspapers or equivalent.
Must write clearly and concisely, have attention to detail, and have excellent
spelling and grammar skills.
Must be able to translate complicated facts and information into copy that is
readable by the general public.
Must be able to develop news reports on own initiative and without direction;
Judgment needed to determine what does or does not make a story.
Must be able to work effectively under deadline pressure.
Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and show evidence of
poise and tact when in contact with the public, sources and co-workers.
Basic computer knowledge required.
College degree in journalism or related field or the equivalent in job experience.
Must have valid driver’s license and a good driving record, and phone for
timely story coverage.
